Federal Intervention in D.C. Trump Seizes Control of the Police
A Troubling Precedent?
President Donald Trump took the unprecedented step of placing Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department under federal control and deploying 800 National Guard troops under the "public safety emergency" provision of Section 740 of the Home Rule Act.
Trump justified the dramatic action by citing rising crime and homelessness in the capital, referencing an assault on a former government staffer as a trigger. His administration framed this takeover as a necessary crackdown on disorder. However, the data tells a different story. Violent crime in D.C. has declined significantly, with violent offenses down roughly 26% from the previous year and homicide rates at a 30-year low.
To be honest this move feels different. You have people like Mayor Muriel Bowser calling the move “unsettling” and even questioned its legality. While this was backed up by the city’s Attorney General who suggested it may not even be lawful. Then there's the the D.C. police union which voiced support... I'm with all the civil rights groups this should be a warning of what's to come and it has set a dangerous precedent.
Trump hinted that cities like New York, Chicago, and Baltimore could be next if they don’t meet his administration’s definition of “law and order". Let that sink in for a bit. I'm going to drown my sorrow in another beer and look at buying more silver.

Not only are we taking back our Country, we’re taking back our Money…
I don't see it that way. We are making money but giving up our freedoms.
Money is Power and Energy… We’re actually taking back our Freedom… We’ll also be paying off the National debt in full…
Trump is currently doing a lot of good things for his country, and in the coming time we will see many more things happening for the better in America.
I disagree
Maybe start looking at vacation homes in Canada too!
I feel lucky where we are if shit hits the fan let's just say I'm heading north really fast.
Yeah, I feel the same way. We have managed to stay out of the fire for the most part in our neck of the woods.
Nice part about MI
For sure!
This is wild, really wild. There's something definitely brewing underneath that we're not knowing yet. That's accumulating too much power for one entity and the justification is quite bogus :)
Sure feels like it. I'm waiting to see if it spreads to other cities.
I guess a lot of Americans are already losing their confidence in Trump reign
I think a lot of people are scared
This is really worrying. If crime rates are going down, I don’t see why there’s a need for federal control. It feels like it could take away the rights of local communities to manage their own police, and that’s not a good sign for the future.
I don't either... It's all about control and I feel like it's a way to get people to stop talking about the Epstein case
Some people are trusting the trum and some are not. Things will come out soon
I'm one that does not. It sure feels like we are heading for a authoritarian state right now.
