Happy 2025 Chinese Mid-Autumn festival , Oct 1st to Oct 8th

This post will seem a little discombobulated so I made somewhat of a format change to accommodate it and let’s just hope I’m not coming down with dementia.

The Mooncake; a not so Classic love/hate relationship

Pictured above is a lotus seed pastry Mooncake from the Saint Germain bakery in Metrotown Burnaby. I’ve been craving for these traditional golden pastries all year. I prefer the red bean with one salted egg yolk in the center variety but I can live with the cheaper yet still delicious white lotus filing. My diet restrictions limit me to no more than a quarter piece a day. Any more would cause significant gastrointestinal discomfort. If Weight Watchers ever had a category of forbidden foods Mooncake could be in it’s top ten. Against my better judgement I plan to stock up a load of discounted Mooncakes on the October 9th. I’m so bad. I’m also planning make them myself as @livinguktaiwan suggested. If I can learn how to do a car's oil change on YouTube, I can learn to make Mooncake there too.

A part of my re-discovered culture

In keeping with my Chinese side the Mid-Autumn festival is officially from October 1st to October 8th with Moonday falling on Monday October 6th which is equivalent to the 15th day of the 8th Month of the Chinese calendar.. I ignored the China National day part to focus on the Moon Festival part. My boys and I are planning a Traditional Hot Pot dinner on Monday.😋

This 3,000 year old festival tradition has significantly changed from it’s Moon worship days as it was believed that the feminine goddess Cheng’e had supernatural powers over the fertility of the land. Now it celebrates the end of the Autumn harvest by the family reunions, courtships, fireworks, lantern lighting, moon admiration activities, and visiting friends.

Back to the Scottsdale shiny

I didn’t have the chance to finish the remaining 2024 Scottsdale Halloween collection, so I will try to that this month. On a similar note, Scottsdale has already issued their 2025 Halloween Series with my Ontario retailer is currently taking orders. With the current Bull market action, I’m not quite as willing to jump on this as I was last year considering I am more into core/weight stacking. And less of the flashy cool silver.
I will update this decision at a later time.

Poor little Twilight, he's been jealous of Mr. Teech so I have to get him some attention before he starts playing with knives again.

Precious Metals news musings; The old 60/40 portfolio model

The other week, I shared an interesting article that scrolled by my News feed with @buggedout an article I would think add some rocket fuel to the gold juggernaut taking place in the precious metal markets.
I love to add a little extra value to gold commentary in his read on the charts so I figured it could raise his eyebrow or two a little when we think about the ramifications. The old portfolio model of 60/40; 60% Stocks and 40% bonds is now out of favor. It should be 60/20/20 suggesting selling half of their bond holdings in favor of gold over Bitcoin according to Morgan Stanley’s Chief Investment Officer Mike Wilson to their clients.

And not to be outdone, the Bond king Jeffery Gundlach of Double Line recommends a 25% allocation to gold with no mention of Bitcoin. With $Trillions in Bond capital starting to look for safety than yield we are now seeing Institutional cash flowing into gold, perhaps some to BTC as well. However, I’m betting there will be some who will take one look at the News neglected, far undervalued silver market and pile in.
The ride will only get better for those that hold gold and silver.

“Seat belts everybody!” 🚀

Physical precious metals bullion stacking is only a part of my personal overall financial strategy. Meanwhile, collecting numismatics are a different set of objectives and strategy. Unless you are a complete nutcase as I am please, do your research before deciding to buy into any bullion or numismatic products. 🎃

This is the first time I've actually watched a video of how to make moon cakes, it does seem incredibly easy just like my sister says, though I wouldn't make the filling myself, just buy it from the shops is much easier! Normally lotus paste filling is a lot more expensive than red bean paste, I'm surprised it's the other way round where you are.

Did I mention you can microwave the moon cake for a little while just enough for the yolk to heat up tiny bit, it releases the aroma and softens the paste so it doesn't feel like you're biting into a brick. It takes a lot better!

Happy moon festival!

My local Asian T&T store do not carry the PVC mold device used to form the cake itself. Checking good old Amazon I can find the bigger 100g to 125g size device to suit my needs. I want big! Then there is the old fashion method of pounding the Mooncake into the wooden mold version. Looks like fun.

The Lotus seed should be more expensive, that makes sense. I regret having not learned to read Chinese as I may have grabbed this cake from the substandard Bakery seconds (As long as they haven't been dropped on the floor kind). I'll be trying the Red Bean version too.

Happiness is a warm Mooncake, next to a hot cup of tea.

Happy Mid-Autumn Mooncake festival for you too Sis.

Mooncake looks delicious. Never had it before. Hope you enjoy your family time and holiday. I do miss getting together with mine for the special times of year. Luckily both boys and our daughter-in-law will be here for Christmas this year. The new shift from bonds doesn't bode well for what investors think about the future economic state of things does it?

Any holiday is a good reason for a family get together.
Especially when my Nephews are getting interested in silver stacking. Christmas Mooncakes? Nah, have I got something shiny for them!

60/20/20 This is a warning shot across the bow of all Bond holders,

Imagine $56 Trillion dollars fleeing an il-liquid and fragile Bond market into PMs.

It all bakes down to quality @silverd510
My new life mission is to develop the tummy friendly Mooncake in my kitchen laboratory. Often a golden salted egg yoke adds a savory contrast to the sweetness of the filling. The golden yolk symbolizes wealth and fertility I believe.

Happy mid Autumn fest! I like the jade necklaces. Have you been up to Jade City BC ever? Some day I'd like to get there, apparently you can pick through the mine tailings for rough Jade!

I promised a friend that I'd work on a bucket list of vacation destinations after November. I vaguely recall my Mom explaining that she preferred Chinese jade but I wasn't sure how that makes a difference to her.

I will pencil in Jade City BC as a suggestion.
And maybe bring my metal detector.

It's a clear shot over the bow of the USS Bond Market, abandon ship!

I can imagine the Bond market carnage as Institutional cash tries to flood to PMs and/or crypto. And the comparatively micro-small silver market launches again. It's why I've bought another 70 troy oz. of silver this month.
And the mainstream mania phase hasn't even started yet.

Alas, I must admit that you have piqued my curiosity about Moon Pies. I am in search of them, and have found some that I'm interested in, but they are currently out of stock. I will keep watch!

Gold and silver are indeed, great precious metals to have in your portfolio. I look forward to seeing your Halloween selections as you share.

Speaking of sharing, thank you for sharing and have a lovely evening sis!🤗💜🎃🐾 !LADY !LUV

These pastries are very rich and tasty. Best served with a hot oriental tea.
I can't help it when I purchased another box of 4 White Lotus with eggs mooncakes today. I couldn't resit when they knocked 25% off the price.

Must not obsess over Mooncakes.
Must focus on gold and silver.

You don't think I'm over obsessive over Mooncakes do you Sis?

Musing alright! 60-40. You can apply that too specifically to your holdings of precious metals.

Scottsdale did not have a standard BU version of these bars, however, I can't complain if these are purely for collecting and the color brings them to life. Now Scottsdale is continuing with the 2025 Halloween horror series. I think this 2025 may be it and I will resume legal tendered weight stacking and very little fancy shiny from here on in.

Some quick math shows my Au/Ag portfolio is 58/42. (jewelry, Pt and batteries not incld.)

I like your PM Portfolio style Sis

Those mooncakes sound to die for... They aren't something I'm familiar with but not I'm going to have to track some down here in Orange County. There's food from just about everywhere here within a ten mile radius! Being able to make them at home would be nice, and maybe leave out some of the ingredients that give you the GI discomfort!

That Scottsdale bar is so pretty, I love those things! The gold with jade pendants are pretty sweet too! I too am considering converting part of my silver into gold to increase my gold percentage. Over the long term it's a smart move, as well as holding more BTC! As for discombobulation, your post wasn't too bad. I wish I could say the same for my brain at the moment!

Danny lived in rural New York state and was able to source it from all places Amazon, !LOL. Quality of the product is questionable. In Vancouver we are blessed with a multitude of Asian bakeries. This white Lotus filling set me back $12 CAD just for one. Come Oct 9th everyone expects them to be discounted like crazy to around $8 CAD. Buying the dip. then make my own.

It's the dietary fat, mostly from Peanut oil or equivalent. The salted golden egg yolk represents wealth and fertility of course.

Btw, my gold stack has grown in value now representing 58% of the total value of my PMs stack while Ag 42%. I'll need a bit more gold to balance 60/40.

PeakD doesn't include a mooncake emoji like Discord has or I'd be Mooncaking everyone.

I'm outta Pimp, !PIZZA

The Morgan Stanley article came out around Sept 17th as I recall. Nobody was talking about it on Leofinance or #SGS so I had to bring it up.
It is significant, I appreciate your help keeping it on the front burner.
Or it would have been missed.

Keep on stacking, because I will.

(This 3,000 year old festival tradition has significantly changed)
( Now it celebrates the end of the Autumn harvest by the family reunions, courtships, fireworks, lantern lighting, moon admiration activities, and visiting friends.) A thousand-year-old celebration that is still valid today, I would say that it is an early Christmas celebration, sharing with the family, having moments with loved ones is the best way to invest our time, it is something that always remains in our minds, nothing is similar or important

And gifts are exchanged as well. 😉
That's the public secret.
As long as it is NOT called Christmas, the CCP will maintain a hands off policy and let their citizens enjoy the season. And Communists hate Christmas. Note that the CCP has linked Oct 1st as a part of the Golden Week holidays, National Day of the PROC with the flag raising, military parades, concerts, more fireworks, etc.
