For the suitcases that never arrived home ...

Today is a difficult day for many of us in Greece.

28th of February 2023. The day of a horrible, horrible train accident, where 57 people were killed from the crash and many others suffered severe trauma. A young man is in coma for 2 years, a young girl is not been found yet and there are many, too many, horrible stories to tell.

You may have read about it, or heard it today in the news because many there were many protests in Greece but also in many cities of the world. The moto of todays protest was I have no oxygen
Why? Because some audio documents were given to the public a few months ago, and there were voices of young people yelling that there was no oxygen... They were being burnt alive.. The fire brigade arrived too late ..

The very big fire is probably (as scientists have concluded) a result of an unknown chemical that was illegally transferred by one of the two trains. The crash caused a terrible fire that brought death to the first two wagons, one of them was were the canteen was and it was full of young people. The crash occurred at 23:23 and at that time the canteen was full of people.

The story is much worse than it seems. The two trains were moving towards the opposite directions, because the person in charge made a mistake and because there was NOT an automatic system that could detect the problem and warn - stop the trains.

Why?

There was supposed to be a safety system in place, it was all arranged for back in 2017. But guess what. The money was spent, but not in that system. The money probably got into the pockets of many politicians. EVERYONE who passed from the government from then to now, did NOTHING about it. This, resulted to so many people losing their lives in such a dreadful and unfair way.

There are too many reasons why people is getting more angry, day by day, and wishes to react. To protest and to show that they do care, that they do deserve better. They-We, do not forget the ones who left this word in such an unfair reason and justice should be served.

There are too many ugly aspects in this story, I get mad every time I think about it, and everything I think what I can do to make things better.

Let this day be written in the blockchain for the souls of the 57 victims and for the ones who were never found or who stayed behind with trauma..

The image is of a wood-sculpture that was being prepared back in September and it represents a suitcase that never got to go home.

This is the before

And here it is when it was being presented, with all the other sculptures. Unfortunately I do now now where it is being kept now to take another image.

This is one of the images after the crash

Today was the day when a message was sent.
We care, and when we gather together, we are stronger.

My wish, to stay safe and to be aware. Indifference can cost too much...

Thank you

May their souls continue to rest in peace. It's so sad that the government that's supposed to look out for the masses doesn't really care

My deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, and everyone affected. I remember when this happened, but the details you give are heartbreaking. Yes, big fires outcompete the lungs for oxygen ... it is one of the most dangerous things about big fires that few know and we pray no one else ever experience

Thank you!
The details I am leaving out are really horrible and should only be part of a bad thriller movie.

And you know what makes angry? No politician will pay for this

I remember we had a similar thing here, a bridge collapsed and people died, no manutention was done, and guess who got jailed? No one of the politics responsible

It is exactly the same here in our country too, when such accidents happen, no politician helps anyone and they continue to watch. It is very sad to hear from you that even after two years, people have not been able to get justice.

My heart goes out to you and everyone in Greece affected by this tragic event. The train accident you described is truly heart-wrenching, and it's understandable why so many people are angry and seeking justice. The loss of 57 lives, along with the severe trauma experienced by many others, is an immense tragedy. The circumstances surrounding the accident, including the inadequate safety measures and potential corruption, make it even more painful.

The protests and the voices of the people demanding justice and accountability are crucial. It is essential that such events are not forgotten, and that those responsible are held accountable to prevent future tragedies. The stories of the victims, like the young man in a coma and the missing young girl, remind us of the real human cost behind these incidents.

Your determination to make things better and ensure that justice is served is commendable, @katerinaramm . Remember, every voice matters, and your efforts to bring attention to this tragedy and demand change can make a difference.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

This was one of the largest (maybe the largest) protests that happened in Greece and we should mention that many other cities in different countries participated. Justice is crucial for everyone and all of us deserve respect.

Thank you again!
