Follow Friday: Year of the ...?
The News
It is not looking so good on the markets right now with everything down, but then $HIVE has not gone down much over the last year. The price in Satoshi has been fairly steady at around 800.
In the open source world people keep talking about when we will get to 'the year of the Linux desktop'. Linux is running most big servers these days, but few people use it on their normal PC. They may well have it on the phone (in Android) and in various other devices without realising it. I have run Linux at home for many years. What is the equivalent for crypto? Is it when the regular media reports on crypto prices as they would the stock exchanges? Is it when you can use crypto to buy your groceries? There are definitely barriers to crypto adoption such as complexity, perceived association with crime, lack of ways to recover lost funds and issues with energy usage. Can we overcome some of those this year?
Friday Follows
- @ssekulji will be out again in the Hive rally car soon. The next race is in Monte Carlo. Maybe there are some Hivers there who could show their support.
- @bigjammin is looking for people who can work on a re-design for @risingstargame. Any game that is going to reach a big audience needs to look good and work well on all platforms.
- @nicklewis is posting videos of him playing with some of his electronic music gadgets. I am a bit more old school, but I find this interesting.
- @deadspace is a great guitarist who likes it heavy. Check out his riffs.
These folk get a share of the post rewards. Spread it around.
Own Goals
I am using this to refer to my personal targets. Last year I hit a significant Hive milestone and the other big numbers are a long way off. It is much easier to double your stake as a Minnow. I still want to keep stacking that HP. I will be happy if I can add 15% this year, but I do intend to buy more.
I do not hold massive amounts of any of the secondary (Hive Engine) coins, but some of those make me extra income. I am looking to optimise that a little. I use some of them to feed my Rising Star addiction as I have to keep buying more $STARPRO to do certain missions. I sell off some of my gains for that. I was looking at what I had in some Diesel Pools today and noticed that one was not earning much. I have taken the funds out to use elsewhere, including buying a little more $LEO, but I will keep some $SWAP.HIVE handy so that I do not need to scrabble around with scraps to buy $STARPRO. My curation and posting rewards almost all go into HP. I realise I am not maximising my earning potential, but I am happy enough with what I make. Things like $HBD savings could make me more.
I have not got into @holozing at all. I know many people have delegated to them for the token drops. I suspect that has affected the rewards distribution. I get regular votes from certain people that are worth less now. I personally prefer to keep control of where my voting power gets used, but I understand why people do this.
What are your favourite parts of the Hive ecosystem for extra income?
The End
January is going by fast, so I need to get on with my goals for the year. Those include music and running as well as Hive. Of course I will be posting about them. I think it is good to have a range of interests that do not all involve using computers.
Have a great weekend and Hive five!

Thanks ever so much @steevc and glad you’re enjoying my vids. They’re fun to make and I’m going to keep doing them, as I record a few of them with each sound design session I have, so that I have a queue to post each day. Tomorrow I hope to do some stuff with the MPC.
I've been delegating to Holozing. I will keep doing it until it doesn't make as much sense anymore. That's what I love about delegating. I can always take it back and it's still mine.
I’m even sad that I am trading futures and I predicted that the market will go up but now it is doing another thing entirely
True, but it's a delegation and can be recovered in 5 days. It's helping me get more HP for sure. 200k soon.
happy new year steev! hope you score lots of sweet own goals in 2024 :p
Likewise. Hope things are good out in the Fens.

BTW Register them a Hive account!
!BEER
haha. of course! got to monetize those baby pics
I have accounts for my kids that are earning via delegation and auto votes even if they don't use them.
impressive commitment steev!
they may well come to be very grateful for that initiative on your part

At one point I had a large percentage of my HP delegated, because I was gaining some good tokens and stuff for it, plus daily Hive. But, I took most of it back and re-evaluated things. Now, I've got nearly 10k HP and 1,400 delegated, which I'm thinking of taking back soon.
I'm at the tail end of a project and when I get paid for that I'm going to put a thousand-ish into Hiveand hopefully get my HP to 15k-ish.
The whole market has taken a bit of a dip, but it's a good oppurtunity for people to get into some good positions for the coming year or two.
My favorite part of HIVE to earn a little extra is the HBDs. I'm currently out of Holozing too... I'll just sit back and watch for now
The market keeps bleeding as against the prediction of people
I'm very old school when it comes to earning extra income on the Hive ecosystem. It's just the basic delegation, but I always keep it to a small % of my stake as I want to support other users. It really cringes me when small stake holders delegate out all their stake and continue to post every day and withdraw the liquid rewards. Everything is so self centered and selfish, and very sad IMHO. But then, who who am I to comment 🤔. Rant over. Sorry
I get that some people really need the money, but others care more about supporting the community. I'm not sure it's good for a few accounts to have so much power due to all their delegations. Hive gives us freedom to do what we want and we don't want to compromise that.
I started using my CoinBase debit card, drawing from by my Bitcoin balance, to buy all of my grocery and food deliveries on January 1st of this year. So yes, I am using crypto to buy my groceries!
The market is really experiencing a massive bleed and this is getting huge
