The News
Happy 4th of July to those who celebrate it. As we start the second half of 2025 I thought I would adjust my regular chart to show how things have been going. It is not that great for $HIVE as we were doing quite well as the year started. The decline is by no means unique to us, but we may have hoped for better. We have a cool community with lots of development going on. We just seem to suffer from lack of recognition with some people giving up on it. The low price is not helping with either of those with it ranking pretty low in the masses of crypto projects out there. Do any of those compare when it comes to being social?
Of course some will consider this an ideal time to buy. The issue can be around being able to buy $HIVE. There are some buttons in the peakd wallet. The CC (credit card) option takes you to Transak, but that is not showing $HIVE for me right now.
Other people like to chart things too. @dalz.shorts plotted the staked HP over time going back to the origins of this chain and the amount has not really changed that much. I know that some people keep building their stake with the monthly HPUD challenge encouraging that, but others will cash out whatever they get. I fully understand that some will really need the money, but it might help matters if we could lock more $HIVE away. As well as taking it off the market it allows more people to influence the project.
There is a new section in the @peakd wallet that shows how many witnesses and proposals an account supports. That support is based on your HP, so having more increases your influence. You may even find people asking for it, but I do not do deals for that.
Friday Follows
- This blockchain is over nine years old and writer @ericvancewalton was in on it early. He has stuck with it through all the dramas. I started about a month after him, so my anniversary is coming up.
- @detlev has posted details of a Hive summit in Aachen next month. It looks like venues will be spread over the three countries that meet there.
- One of the most exciting Hive projects is @vsc.network who are building smart contracts. They posted about something this could enabled called Liquid Staking. I have not grasped all the details, but having more ways to invest in Hive is great.
- @meno is working on HiveSnaps which lets you post Snaps from a mobile device. I just tried it from my Android phone and it worked.
- I have often posted about the cool comics we have on Hive. One of those is from @northwestnomad whose funny, nerdy stories will appeal to those into Dungeons and Dragons.

As we start another month I will be generating the #BritList tomorrow. I would like to see people maintaining lists for other countries and I am happy to help with that. I have scripts to do some of the hard work.

I'm not sure if this still works. I think I heard this option created some issues for SPS and may or may not still be available in that case. So maybe it's the same for HIVE.
I used it previously, but can't now. I need to see if I can go via my crypto debit card. That does not do $HIVE directly, but I could buy Litecoin or whatever is easiest to convert.

I think events like these encourage teamwork and creativity in HIVE community, which is crucial for development.

The staking being static over the life of HIVE is a little sad, I would have expected the percentage of staked hive to increase over time, not stay static. I guess its a sign of revolving doors. How do we get people to stay?
Getting folk to stay is the $1m question. Even people I brought in are not posting now. I think the social experience can be better on bigger platforms, but I find things like FB annoying and I gave up on Twtr. People will go where their friends are.

I see this (the low Hive price) as a buying opportunity for long term investing.
Three days ago (on 2025.07.01) I bought 754.235 Hive, and I Powered Up 500 Hive.

BEER.Liquid staking is pretty common nowadays and that it is great the Hive is catching up with these things. Hive is head and shoulders above anything else in the socialfi field but for the crypto only enthusiasts it might not be the place. But this is what makes Hive unique, there is something for everyone here, you don't have to be a pure crypto geeky nerd like on so many other places!
I keep saying it's not just for the 'bros'. We have all topics here, but it seems a natural home for crypto fans rather than reddit or whatever. If we could tempt a few communities over it would be a start. We have some of the Dash people here already.
The InLeo guys did great with some of their other chain hookups. Unfortunately as Hive only newcomers, we see some of the OGs from the legacy chain hold grudges and don't all pull together for the benefit of Hive.
Would be great having more users and retaining most of who use Hive in a good way.
Let's see what July brings.
I used to buy Hive through Transak too. It was so easy...
Now I have a Binance account. I have to buy Bitcoin, convert it to Hive and then send it to my Hive wallet. Ooof
I can do that via Wirex, but have just not used it in ages. I need to check if my account still works.
Be wary of Binance because I had a very odd call from someone claiming to to work for them and that they were trying to protect my account. I gave them false details and hung up. Some months later somebody was trying to access my account, I shut it down in response. It’s left me feeling a bit nervous. I never had much in there because I used it as a way to convert GBP to Hive and Bitcoin.
I've not used Binance. I know of someone who had an issue with Wirex, but I never kept much on that account.
It's a matter of timelines really. Hive at $0.20 is more than doubled since we forked.
Bitcoin was worthless for so many years before the public caught on to it as a store of value against fiat inflation.
As for people sticking around that's a whole different ball of wax. 👍

We're playing a very long game here, but I am prepared to wait. Others may be more impatient and move to the 'next big thing'. I've just not seen anything else like Hive and I have a lot of friends here.
We've both been around for a very long time on the webs and have never seen anything like $hive. I'm invested here for the long haul and have also made a lot of friends.
Content creation wasn't even a thing when I got started. It was just bulletin boards for academic studies and researchers.
