The News
Nothing much to report on the crypto prices this week. $HIVE is hardly changing over a week and $LEO has dropped a little.
The media is full of news about the new Threads app from FB/Meta. It seems millions signed up on the first day, but I do not intend to. I do not want to have to install another app and I have lost trust in corporate social media anyway. Unfortunately the masses will just go where the celebrities and their friends are. We need to build bigger social networks on Hive as it is more fun when your friends are here too. We cannot rely on getting big celebrities as they go where the big audience is. We could aim for more niche people who could bring their following over and start earning on Hive. Will people here use Meta Threads?
Last week @blocktrades announced that they will no longer offer a crypto exchange service. I expect that conforming to legal restrictions was hard and they were not making money. They had already added KYC (Know Your Custom) registration and had stopped operating in the USA. What exchanges will people be using instead?
Another announcement was that @abh12345 will not be doing the Hive Engagement League any more. It ran for over four years and distributed lots of prizes, but nothing lasts forever. Of course anyone can access the Hive data to compile tables and charts. I do this for the #BritList, which I do intend to continue.
Friday Follows
- Hive witness @guiltyparties set up a Mastodon node ages ago, but I had missed that. I see a few Hivers are using it. I am on Mastodon and I promote Hive there.
- I added @strega.azure to the #BritList this week as they are in Northern Ireland. They have some cool art posts.
- In the Republic of Ireland @killerwot has been introducing some people to Hive. @mclynchy and @xkasabian joined up recently, so please make them welcome.
People mentioned get a share of the post rewards.
The Doghouse
I am not calling specific people out again this time, but I will mention the topic of self-votes. I am sure you know that Hive rewards come from a daily pool that is shared based on how the community votes. Self-voting may be seen as a selfish action as you should let others decide if your content has value. If a tiny account does this then nobody will care as it makes little difference, but people have used it to make dollars each day. I expect some people check for this as you can easily do that via scripts that look at each post, but some will be sneaky and do it via another account they control. Even so, someone may notice and you could get called out for it. If you earn anyway then is it worth the hassle for a little extra?
Personally, I am less likely to vote on a post that has a big self-vote. I can give more rewards to others who need them more.
I have seen plenty of more blatant abuse. Some would make lots of junk comments and vote them up. Doing that will get you downvoted.
You may feel you deserve more rewards, but the community can object to underhand methods. If you plan to be here for the long run then it is best to maintain good relations.
The End
These are interesting times for social media as the big guns drive users away by bombarding them with ads or charging for features. This is an opportunity to promote Hive. If you have a fanbase then you can make your content exclusive to Hive. Fans will need an account to follow it, but then they can also earn. Everyone wins!
Have a great weekend.

This is the first I'm hearing of "Threads". I hate Facebook so much that my mind probably switched off and filtered out any news I saw online concerning them. The idea of using their app makes me want to throw up in my own mouth haha.
Having said that, a lot of marketers probably jumped on it since you can usually get a lot of followers in the first few weeks of an app launching so you can probably make some kind of money from it. I'm going to be giving that one a pass.
LOL! You did well to avoid hearing about it. Obviously millions did hear and jumped on board. I'm not joining any more centralised platforms unless I can't avoid it.
!BEER
I had a quick look into it and I think I know why so many people joined. They were migrated from Instagram and Facebook haha. It's an artificially inflated number :)
I think you have to manually set up your account. I have an Insta account I don't use, but have not even looked at Threads.
Same here lol and then my brain said, hang on, that’s in the spam folder of your memory, you read about them but promptly forgot about them. My brain does this for things like the Daily Mail and so on if I ever encounter that. All the same kind of thing.
This week is full of news.. not over yet..
Interesting times to be honest.. threads is literally collecting bunch of data...not trusting em at all. Mark is probably paying those celebrities and that's creating hype + shinny app. So, more people trying their hard to get attention.
Sad to see engagement league is ending... Hopefully someone will continue, abh legacy here.
Trying best to bring traffic in hive out of this whole thread hype.. I guess, it's a Good opportunity and Win win situation.
I just want people to at least know about Hive so they have options. I've been burnt too many times by corporate platforms.
I have no interest in signing up on Meta Threads, I don't use FB anymore and only really use Messenger. To be honest, I don't use any social media since joining Hive, apart from Instagram where I put up the very occasional post and mainly just catch up with friends. I did make a Twitter account after signing up here, but don't use it much.
Thanks so much for the mentions mate, I've been running them through the courses and helping them along their way. They both really like it and have been talking about posts they're each thinking of making, which I'll be looking forward to reading, but I said until then, get to know the place, people and see what's out there. I have a few more people ready to join and some who are here but haven't posted yet, I'm assuming that @xkasabian and @mclynchy will open the floodgates for a few more friends to take the plunge.
!PIMP !DHEDGE
You must be killin' it out here!
@killerwot just slapped you with 1.000 PIMP, @steevc.
You earned 1.000 PIMP for the strong hand.
They're getting a workout and slapped 1/1 possible people today.
Read about some PIMP Shit or Look for the PIMP District
I see some describe others as 'sheep' (or worse) for using corporate platforms, but most don't realise there are alternatives. There are limits to how much difference we can make to that. I hardly use them anyway, but I need to stay in touch with certain people.
Well done on the recruitment and I hope it leads to far more Hivers. We do need an #IreList to track them I reckon.
!HUG
I sent 1.0 HUG on behalf of @steevc.
(2/3)
That's what I was thinking man haha, I like what you do with the #britlist I'd love to see the Irish equivalent to that, I find it interesting tracking stats, it may certainly be on the horizon.
I totally get why people still use it, especially if they don't know about the alternatives. I like to see more people come to Hive, and I kind of like that they aren't coming in droves in a hype mob kind of way, at least as people drip in they can learn with more focused attention. We'll get there man, I do agree though, more people with small followings would be great so that they can onboard some of their fanbase. It would be good to find some writers who use blogging sites, and tell them about it.
I have a script that finds 25 active Hivers in Ireland with 16 posting. It's a start.
Oh, that's deadly man! I assumed there would be more than that, still though 16 is a pretty solid number, but, the more the merrier.
There are probably more, but my script just looks at profile location. If you want to work on building a full list then I'll help where I can.

I myself since I started using this platform have really stopped using all the social media platforms and am working day and night on it and one day it will definitely be successful and here all the people working on this platform are very nice and very supportive to all user's. I have been using Facebook for almost a year till now I have not benefited since I have been using this network and will continue to use it for the rest of my life.
We have lots of dedicated people on Hive, but it is still tiny really. We should each try to bring in more people, but it may take something major for it to get attention.
I hope Hive is fun for you.
!BEER
Of course it is now the responsibility of all of us to make this platform more popular in the world.
I think threads might work the end for Twitter as well we know it. Not immediately but in the end. It works be nice if we sniped some of the exodus
If we could get 1% of the Twitter refugees that would be great, but I don't think we even manage that despite possible confusion over the Threads and Hive names.
Indeed! Threads might be a bit confusing. I saw some chat about Leo having come up with it first but apparently Meta has had the name and all that jazz trademarked since 2019
I'm sure the big companies have lots of names registered for future use. I'm not sure they would bother suing Leo unless it gets much bigger.
Yeah, it's easy to small and under the radar.
Have you looked much into the pay wall service that Leo is looking at rolling out? I'm not sure it is the best move, but I haven't read a ton about it yet.
I don't know the details on that. We do have limited options for getting $HIVE, so any extras will be welcome. I used Blocktrades a fair bit.
Yeah, more ways into Hive is never a bad thing. There is a new service I used a while ago that takes you direct from BTC to Hive. It worked quite well. I'm not sure what kind of volume it can handle though.
We need some portal that lists all the options and shows what they can handle.
That would be cool.
Thank you @steevc for mention me! Cheers!
You are most welcome
