The News

The title refers to something that belongs in the Dog House, so see below.

Prices from @coingecko

I have plotted the prices over the last three months to show where things have been going. It is obviously not great for $HIVE and some others, but with Bitcoin dipping we will suffer. Nobody with sense will cry too much if $STEEM goes to nothing as it is a corrupt chain with a few people making most of the rewards. I would urge people to stay away from it, but if you have honest friends over there then encourage them to come to Hive.

@hivebeecon is happening in Kraków this weekend. I was there for SF3, but will miss this event. I know a few of my friends are there and they will be reporting on it. I have seen some posts from @alessandrawhite.

I saw this from @thebeedevs about running a Hive node on a Raspberry Pi. It is technical stuff, but if a few people do this then it makes the chain more robust. For around £100 you could help support the running of Hive. It may be possible to run a witness on there, so you could earn from it too. The energy costs would be fairly low. Hive is not an energy hog like some other blockchains.

The fallout from the collapse of Brofund is still ongoing. The person behind that account is posting some nasty stuff, but the general opinion is that they need some help with their mental health. In the meantime you should unvote their witness. There is some countering of their votes going on so you may get caught up in that.

If you have a spare witness vote then @rivalzzz is now a witness.

Friday Follows

  • @zirochka gives us reports from Kyiv where life goes on despite the conflict.
  • @nicklewis has changed the Hive Sound Library community to be about music technology in general. With our fairly small userbase we have to adjust things to reach a wider audience.
  • I always enjoy the music videos from @harbiter. I think he does well to write songs in English as an Italian speaker. We have a wide variety of music on Hive so everyone should find something to enjoy. If you like it really heavy then @deadspace rocks some riffs.

The Dog House

Talking of music we have had various contests around that on Hive. The Vibes one had some great prizes and attracted more people here. Unfortunately it has been corrupted with people taking funds to sway the results. The contest has been shut down and those involved in the abuse have been blacklisted. If you abuse the trust people place in you then you have to expect this when you are found out.

I hope this will not put people off posting their music on Hive. Even if you do not win big prizes you can still get rewards and engagement. We need more musicians and fans to be active on Hive, so encourage your friends to sign up. On other platforms you need thousands of followers to make anything, but anyone can earn something on Hive. We should make it a hub for music fans. You can put videos on @3speak that offers more freedom than the big video platforms.

The End

I plan to meet up with some Hivers later. You do not have to wait for someone else to organise an event as any time you can get people together it will be fun.

I always emphasise that Hive should be fun for you. We cannot all expect to make massive rewards, but we have something special here. On the big corporate platforms you are just a data point and target for advertising, but here you are part of a community that wants to do things differently. It is by no means perfect, but there are opportunities if you build things with others.

My favorite post to read on Fridays is your Friday Follow. It gets mentioned most Fridays during check-in @creativeworkhour, especially whomever may be in the doghouse this week! 🐶

As you may have noticed, I’ve never posted my music on HIVE. Maybe I’m being a snowflake about it.😯

Might you have a recommendation of how to tag my post or what community might be a good match?
When I’m wearing my musician hat, I can be disappointed if there’s no audience. Does that make any sense?

I don't post too much music really and I am not so sure about where is the best place. There are some very general music communities, but you could get lost in the noise there (almost literally). I do not think we are big enough for a dedicated clarinet community. Actually the Music does not have too many posts each day. I think it is something to experiment with.

I find too much for the dog house really and it is sad when things turn bad. It is part of the anarchy of this wild west.

The Vibes scam is extremely shabby, considering how small our community is, and how little money was in stake...

Nobody was going to get really rich off it. Seems crazy to me.

Well, $100 could be a small fortune in some countries, but still.

Yeah, looks like I finally got called out in a post. I'm actually surprised I slid under the radar this long. I just hope people don't believe the stuff that is being posted from that account and realize he is sick and needs help. It's best not to even engage with it.

A good read, great to catch up with some news after some time away. Hive has its problems, but the good of the community will always shine through. Good luck with the meetup later.

📉 Hive price and cryptocurrency marketcap in general, with $1 trillion down in about a month 🥺 but Hive downtrend is worse than bitcoin and marketcap in general.
It is a shame about Vibes, and killing an effort when more users, value and development is needed to stop the trend 📈
And blacklisting more users that have taken advantage taking $ and not creating value, under delivering or running away with $. They deserve a clawback besides the blacklisting, but there is no way to do that now.

We are a small fish in the crypto pond despite having some very engaged people and a lot of cool projects. I think Hive is underappreciated for what it offers. We have a few rogue operators who spoil it for all.

Question : why run a node if you don't want to be a witness?

(Edited)

I need to learn more, but I assume it makes the system more robust. may consider becoming a witness.

Yeah , I mean if someone is gonna go to the trouble of running a node. You may as well earn as few HBD from it every month by validating blocks. I am not sure if being a witness just validates the blocks or if you validate a block just by running a node. It's a bit out of my html/css/ React skills.

I find it even more ridiculous that some people advertise blurt over hive, look lol it's pathetic

They are free to do what they want, but I don't think Blurt is innovating and it may not be very decentralised.

Lots of interesting things to look into here. I’ve some Raspberry Pi kicking around doing nothing, so maybe I should turn them into witness nodes.

Thanks for the mention and hope the meet up went well. Sorry I had to pull out.

You were missed tonight. I think you need one of the more powerful Pi options for a node, but they are not too expensive. The latest I have is a Pi 3.
