When this year began, I had an idea of what Hive was and what it could be – and that idea looked very different from what I see today. Yes, I've never been one to latch on to negativity, even when things have looked really dim (insert Justin Sun flashback fiasco). But today, and I do mean very recently, I see this place through an entirely different lens.

Allow me to tell you about my morning, just so you can follow where I am mentally for a second.

I'm sitting in “my office,” as @beca67 calls it, onboarding a brand new Hivean (@feros81), when my good friend @jersont tells me he's been selling his HBDs to other people. Initially, I thought this was good news since he was cashing out a bit, balancing the books, so to speak. But his face revealed concern.

“I don't want to sell any more of my HBDs… I need them.”

When those words came out of his mouth, I quickly remembered my conversation with @starkerz all those months ago on Discord. “There's not enough HBDs…” – his voice replaying inside my head.

And here's the kicker, listen: I know us older Hiveans are in love with our governance token, with HIVE. The influence it gives us, the political capital, the ability to support others – all those things are very valuable to us, to me. But that love for the ecosystem, for the long-term value, for building something bigger – that comes with time, with a lot of time.

Right now, however, I'm talking about something completely different. More in the now, so to speak. I'm talking about utility for the masses, for the common folk, the ones who may not be too interested in writing much, or even writing at all, but could use a little extra inside their wallets. I'm talking about the economy we can build on top of Hive, and the difference it can make for real people. I'm talking about right now. Not tomorrow, not a year from now, not “when we make it,” as us dreamers always say.

I guess you could say I saw, or more correctly, I heard, one of the most bullish signs one can hear. And my friend Jerson doesn't even know he made my day when he did. Oh, how the world goes round, my friends.

As of now, we have five, going on six, going on seven businesses that accept HBD as a form of payment. A tiny micro economy being born before our very eyes. And yet, I'm already seeing how we've effectively run out of HBDs to make the rounds.

But hey, this is precisely the kind of problem I like to have – and I submit, so should you.

Cuando comenzó este año, tenía una idea de lo que era Hive y de lo que podría ser, y esa idea se veía muy diferente a lo que veo hoy. Sí, nunca he sido de aferrarme a la negatividad, incluso cuando las cosas se han visto realmente oscuras (insertar aquí el fiasco de Justin Sun como flashback). Pero hoy, y de verdad digo muy recientemente, veo este lugar con lentes completamente diferentes.

Permíteme contarte sobre mi mañana, solo para que sigas dónde estoy mentalmente por un segundo.

Estoy sentado en “mi oficina,” como la llama @beca67, incorporando a un nuevo hiveano (@feros81), cuando mi buen amigo @jersont me dice que ha estado vendiendo sus HBDs a otras personas. Al principio pensé que era una buena noticia, ya que estaba retirando un poco, equilibrando las cuentas, por así decirlo. Pero su rostro mostraba preocupación.

“No quiero vender más de mis HBDs… los necesito.”

Cuando esas palabras salieron de su boca, recordé rápidamente mi conversación con @starkerz hace ya varios meses en Discord. “No hay suficientes HBDs…” – su voz repitiéndose en mi cabeza.

Y aquí está el detalle, escucha: sé que nosotros, los hiveanos más viejos, estamos enamorados de nuestro token de gobernanza, de HIVE. La influencia que nos da, el capital político, la capacidad de apoyar a otros – todas esas cosas son muy valiosas para nosotros, para mí. Pero ese amor por el ecosistema, por el valor a largo plazo, por construir algo más grande – eso llega con el tiempo, con mucho tiempo.

Sin embargo, ahora mismo estoy hablando de algo completamente diferente. Más del presente, por así decirlo. Hablo de utilidad para las masas, para la gente común, aquellos que tal vez no estén muy interesados en escribir mucho, o en escribir nada, pero que podrían usar un dinerito extra en sus billeteras. Hablo de la economía que podemos construir sobre Hive y la diferencia que puede hacer para personas reales. Hablo de ahora. No de mañana, no de aquí a un año, no de “cuando lo logremos,” como decimos nosotros los soñadores.

Supongo que se podría decir que vi, o más correctamente, escuché una de las señales más positivas que uno puede oír. Y mi amigo Jerson ni siquiera sabe que me alegró el día cuando lo dijo. Oh, cómo gira el mundo, amigos míos.

Hasta ahora, tenemos seis, casi siete negocios que aceptan HBD como forma de pago. Una microeconomía diminuta naciendo ante nuestros ojos. Y, aun así, ya estoy viendo cómo, efectivamente, nos estamos quedando sin HBDs para que circulen.

Pero bueno, este es precisamente el tipo de problemas que me gusta tener – y me atrevo a decir que a ti también debería gustarte.
