The end of our Discord addiction?
It is no secret that Hiveans love Discord a little too much. As a matter of fact, some say you can't properly Hive without Discord — though that point is somewhat controversial, I know. Yet it looks like the exodus might be forced upon us.

I suspect — and of course I have no proof — that this is coming due to pressure from governmental bodies. The shooting of Kirk might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back, as they say, but the chatter has been in the air for years at this point.
Who knows what happens in those Discord servers? The news anchor would say this while presenting Discord as a more efficient dark web of a kind. It sounds like I'm exaggerating, but I submit to you that I'm being quite mild about it.
With all that said, there are alternatives to Discord. There have always been alternatives. Here on Hive, we have more than a few, and I'm sure this news will provide jet fuel for their adoption — since most of us won't be happy playing along.
Submit my ID, you say? You need to know if I’m younger than 13, you insist? Oh, but you won’t give out my info to any agency, right? My privacy is protected?
Who are we kidding? The surveillance state is ramping up, and social media is no longer the battleground — they’ve already claimed the spoils. You’re not allowed to dissent on TikTok anymore, and now, I’m sure, Discord won’t allow dissent either. It’s for our own protection, you know?
At any rate, I think this is good news all in all. Yes, uncomfortable. Yes, annoying. Gosh — I have more than a few apps with webhooks plugged right into Discord. But hey, I can adapt. So can all of us.
In a way, I’m looking forward to this a bit. What app will reign supreme? They’ll walk it back, I’m sure. When they see their numbers go down, they will panic.
But the stone will already have been cast, and people don’t easily forget the bump on their heads.

I've been off Discord for more than a year now, and still am. When Peakd came out with Sting I wanted to see that replace Discord - but people didn't adopt it and it has languished to date.
Now is a good time. When platforms require ID, we abandon those platforms. TikTok is bleeding users and they're moving to Upscrolled, which is a dedicated freeze peach replacement. It's sad Hive didn't have a replacement ready to provide censorship resistant short form video content. Let's see if we can replace Discord. Maybe instead of maximizing curation rewards, the devs working on HF's can restore Hive's reputation it lost by flagging ~1M users off the platform and getting ready to replace Fakebook - because you know that's coming too.
Thanks!
the surveillance state is here now...
Atilio Boron says it's Operation Condor 2.0.
I guess it comes to finding out where one draws the line in protecting their privacy for some form of temporary leverage that isn't even necessary "to hive".
The moment discord sold their platform to the CCP I bounced and deleted the app. I only now use telegram and element/matrix. If I had a PC my set up would be much more private.
I was disappointed with how sting turned out. It's glitchy as hell and looks sloppy to me. And definitely not mobile friendly. Though I think it still has plenty potential.
I know Jarvie was updating his implementation of Sting chat, but idk, im still not convinced people will hop over to it.
