If you don't get it, that's Ok... (Eng/Esp)
There’s a famous quote by the mysterious figure Satoshi Nakamoto that crosses my feed every now and then. Today, the infamous blunt line showed up again, and once more, I found it fitting. Maybe even more so now, because there are still people unconvinced about this whole “crypto thing.”
It's 2010, and the BitcoinTalk forum is in its heyday. Satoshi is laying down the bricks of what would become a financial revolution. Most people are there out of curiosity, but he is driven by a mission. You can almost hear the tone of his voice as you read the line:
“If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.”
I’ll grant you this much: you won’t win hearts with that pitch, but one has to admire the conviction. How many times a week — a day, even — do I defend my belief in crypto? How many people around me, including family, think that what I’m doing is a little crazy and probably won’t work out? After all, it’s just magic internet money, and it makes no sense. Who is backing this?
There have been days when I’ve bitten my tongue. A version of Nakamoto’s words brewed inside my head but died before reaching my vocal cords. There’s a certain level of teaching and preaching one has to master, and although I’m not there just yet, I’m trying to become better at it. Part of that skill is learning to smile back, even if you’ve repeated yourself ten times in the same hour. Even if the other person refuses to accept certain realities about the money they adore, fiat.
I realize that for some people, the centralization of violence — otherwise known as the government — is what ultimately matters. So even if they concede that paper is, objectively, just paper — only subjectively valuable — they believe a gun to the head and a promise of rusty bars leaves little room for debate. I get that. And I acknowledge it to be true, but only temporarily so.
You see, change — real change, the kind you read about in books — never starts from the top. It starts from the bottom.
We may hear the word grassroots tossed around in political speeches and campaign slogans, but if we take that word back, we might find ourselves properly analyzing the revolutions of the past. And maybe even predicting the ones to come.
So where am I going with this brain dump, you may ask?
Well, I’m not truly sure.
I think, in the end, all I wanted to do was share Nakamoto’s infamous line once again — and remind myself, and maybe you too — that it’s okay if other people don’t get it.
That doesn’t mean we’re wrong.

Hoy volvió a salir, y otra vez me pareció acertada.

Did you know this message by Satoshi is a direct response to @dan Larimer? :D
you just blew my mind with that factoid... I see Dan's signature there referring to steemit, but that was years later. I guess if the user profile was later updated, it would show in the convo.
I was going to leave a similar comment, but you already dropped this fun fact here. :)

Another fun fact is that Dan is now using his time to figure out when the Rapture is coming. He has a fairly popular YouTube channel with 133K subscribers. His latest (4th I think) prediction for the likely date is coming fast - August 19th.
In the very early days of the previous chain, Dan and his dad Stan were debating Christianity with Stan being Pro and Dan being Con. In recent years Dan switched back to being a believer.
Dan has had an interesting life, that's for sure! I'm glad he created social-fi for all of us. Other crypto trends have come and gone but we're still going strong here on HIVE.
Define "fun", mate. :P
Ha, well okay I will define my usage of that word here!
I think it is fun to know the fact that Dan was in on the early online discussions about crypto and Bitcoin.
It might be fun to know how Dan is spending some of his time these days.
But the Rapture aftermath, probably Not Fun for most folks! :O
As for me, I'm not worried. I won't go into why, but I will say that I respect everyone's beliefs regardless of how similar or different they may be from my own.
I wish @dan and everyone who reads this all the best!
“How can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent?” (c)
who said this? seems like a solid movie line
