World of Kedra and Maledictus Terra Progress

Source

Hey everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa.

This is an update post about how my progress is going in my two book series. A little while ago, I made the determination that I MUST get published. I have a massive epic fantasy world with multiple stories already written and due to life circumstances, I had paused my Great Work - World of Kedra.

Maledictus Terra

In the meantime, I began co-writing a story with @lex-zaiya here on Hive. We would write between 500-1000 words on average each, every week and send the story back and forth that way... and we ended up writing two full novel-sized stories and we are now busy with a 3rd that is likely more of an Epic book length!

So... after conferring with @lex-zaiya, we decided that we shall publish the first book of Maledictus Terra: Mortis Custos. I am don't the first editing pass and I am around 80-90% done just doing a basic read-through and fixing some basic spelling errors here and there that we missed.

I have not re-written a sentence yet.

But I am not just reading. I am also recording characters and important facts into a Spreadsheet that Lex and I can both access. I have also been putting together the basics for creating a map.

Until now, we worked without a map but as things become more solid and "known", it has become increasingly important to build this map.

This might actually need me to skim through Book 2 and 3 to pull out higher-level plot devices and Proper Nouns.

Usually when I am working on my own, there is a bit of world planning that goes on before the fiction, or at least this is what happened and what WORKS later on. I used to "pants" it until a plot broke under the weight of its own contradictions or veering off into a incomprehensible and vague tangent.

So I have learned that it becomes really important to build something that details these things. So I am busy retroactively building a world lore and plot lore system for myself and Lex to further collaborate on.

The idea is still that once I have done what I needed to do on Mortis Custos, that I would then go to World of Kedra and work on what I am looking at getting published.

*BTW - By getting Published, I mean that we are going to self-publish on Amazon KDP.

World of Kedra

So what is the progress on World of Kedra?

Well, the idea here was that I immerse myself into the lore and world of the book so I began with Nations Under Siege(Series name): Book 1 - Might of the Lands.

I have read the whole Book 1 and WOW I am super excited about it because I really enjoyed reading that book! I really want to read the 2nd book and the whole series really. But I also need to put time and effort into Maledictus Terra and thus I have to put that down for a bit.

I have a stand alone book that is already written, but I think that Dread Knight and Mortis Custos are too similat to one-another that this would then confuse potential readers.

Therefore I shall need to do something else. I do NOT want to start from Nations Under Siege. The idea would to be a few Novels that are stand alone or part of a smaller series that does not directly involve those 5 books.

I have yet to determine what story the first World of Kedra book will be to get published.

I think I shall do some digging and then ask the members of Hive for some of input on the matter!

Until then - have a great week further!
