My First Ever Income, A Sweet Story To Remember
Hello #indiaunited community, this is my first time here I think. I couldn't just look past this week's prompt when it pumped up at my feed this morning. I guess that is because the topic asked us to talk about money, which happens to be my favorite topic. To share about our first income or pocket money. Well, I can't talk much about my first pocket money as I can't remember much about how the story goes but I have something sweet to remember about my first income.
Growing up, earning my own money was something I was so excited about. I would dream of a day when I could make money and all the beautiful things I could do with it. But I was just a little girl and there were no job opportunities I could do to earn money for myself, until one day when an opportunity presented itself. I remember it like yesterday, I should be around 14 years old at that time. It was one of the sweetest feelings ever. Come along and I shall tell you guys all about it.
In those days we had a large palm 🌴 tress farm land, my parents will harvest the fruits and we will extract the red oil from it. For our household usage and commercial purposes. After the oil is extracted we will be left with the palm kernels which are usually in large quantities. My Mom used to employ the service of some of the villagers to help us remove the shells of the kernels which she will then sell in the market.
As I was growing up, one day I asked my mom if I could remove the palm kernels shells in my free time and sell it and earn money from it, which she happily agreed to.
Every weekend in my free time, I would spend time working on the palm kernels, I still remembered my first sale hehe. On that day I followed my mom to the market, she helped me sell my kernels and I was so excited 😊 when she handed over the money to me. She said, take this, it's all yours.
It was just 450 Naira, little money lol😂 I remembered saving the money at the bottom of my clothes bag, I continue to sell more palm kernels which I eventually use the money to buy a piece of cloth for myself. That was the first time I started earning money and I was so happy my parents gave me the chance to do that. This made me always look forward to the palm kernels season because I knew there was money to be made not just for my parents but a side income I can call my own.
How about you guys, what is your first time income/pocket money story? Do join us at the Contest and let's hear it.

Wow, one Yoruba adage says, "owo ti omode ba kokori akara lo n fi n je." How do I interprete that 😁😁, it means the first money a child sees, he/she uses to get bean cake(like something thats insignificant). But it's good to see that your's wasn't like that, you got yourself a beautiful dress.
I can imagine the happiness you would have felt knowing you worked for it.
Thanks for sharing.
❤️
Haha 😂 I'm familiar with the Yoruba adage, I'm glad I get use the money in a better way hehe.
Yes, knowing that I could earn money was a sweet experience.
Smiles..
That's good....

That feeling of "Now I have my own money to do as I wish". Nice your mom gave you the opportunity to experience this and now it's etched in your memory.

Oh, dear! This is such a wonderful story of your first income. I can imagine how cheerful you would have been after realizing that your mom didn't resist your plea to sell some for your personal gain. Even more, I love that you spent the money wisely. It believe these little moments shape different parts of our lives because I see how it correlates with money being your favourite topic.🥰
