LIFE AFTER SCHOOL IS NOT A BED OF ROSES

Life after school can be a very challenging one, it doesn’t matter if it is secondary school or university, it is stepping into a new phase of life and a whole new reality. A lot is expected of you at this point in life. If you are just leaving secondary school, they are expected to start up lessons for jamb and enroll in computer lessons to aid them in writing jamb and they can learn a skill that will help them with financial independence in their journey in the university as freshers. And for a graduate fresh out of the university he or she is expected to get a job and keep busy for the main time as they try to raise money to do school clearance which is done in every university and prepare to go for NYSC.

This brings me to this weekly prompt which is what “what advice would you give someone who just left school today”. I remember my own experience till the date I came out of secondary school in the year 2018 and I took jamb that same year, but I spent some months at home with my parents it was mostly filled with farm work, attending jamb lessons and computer lessons. I would say I made a mistake not trying to learn a skill during my time at home because that would have helped me a lot. But as a girl who is naturally talented, I had skills that were beneficial to me for example: hair styling, baking and knitting. Getting into the university I was able to survive most of the time because I sold cakes in school and made my fellow students’ hair and got my pay. I also made my hair myself and it saved me so much money.

There are a lot of things that someone who just got out of school should know, there are so many things that life will teach us that we won’t learn in school. If you ask 99% of people who just left school now what their next plan will be, the most common answer you will get is they are looking for money. Well in your quest of looking for money look for value at the same time.

And learn to get out of your comfort zone and make a move to make life better for yourself and surround yourself with friends who encourage you to be the best, friends who care about your growth and help you build. The world is evolving very fast and is going digital, there is a lot of knowledge to learn on the web and job opportunities.

Add learning skills to one of your life goals immediately after school, these days there are no jobs in the country and most people survive on their entrepreneurship skills and they are making their money and leaving well. so it is very important to learn skills.

My advice to those who have just left school is to always know that times wait for nobody so you should engage yourself in things that are beneficial to you and surround yourself with bright minds and strive to be the best.
