Market Friday - At Amanzimtoti Estuary
Today is #MarketFriday, a project initiated by @dswigle, and this post is my contribution to this project for this week.

It was my wife’s birthday on Monday. So, the kids wanted to come over on Sunday afternoon to spoil their mom for her birthday.
Although time was limited, my wife needed to get something in Illovo during the morning and fortunately, we still had enough time to make one or two stops along the way.
One of the places we often pass by is Amanzimtoti Estuary, where the Amanzimtoti River meets the ocean. We normally drive down the main road through Amanzimtoti, checking out the scenery, without ever thinking of stopping and exploring this area a bit more.
Well, it was time to do something about that.
As mentioned in my post on Wednesday, I have decided to make some extra stops in Amanzimtoti, exploring the various beaches and the activities in the surrounding areas.
As we parked the car, I saw this neat little spot to the left (just above the beach) and we decided to look closer.
I have no idea what it is, but it looks like it might have something to do with transmitting signals of some kind.
As mentioned, this is also where the Amanzimtoti River mounts into the ocean. I was able to capture some shots of the scenery.
Zooming in a little more on the river...
Looking inland, you can see the bridge where the railway is crossing the river. Just behind the railway line is the main road, running parallel to the railway line. That is also the road we would soon be traveling on, going down all the way to Illovo.
The railway line runs all along the coastline of the south coast. It is currently not in use though, still due to damage caused by the floods from last year.
Just to the right, on the bank of the river, you can see Ollies Pub & Grill. Thank you #MarketFriday, for getting me to start paying more attention to places like this, as it was with #MarketFriday in mind, that I started taking notice of Ollies Pub & Grill...LOL.
We started walking toward Ollies and I thought a photo of these two apartment buildings would make a decent shot.
Another shot of Ollies Pub & Grill in the next photo. I liked this view and thought it would make for a nice photo across the water.
We would be walking around the water as you can see in the next photo, passing the parking area (where our car was also parked), to get to Ollies.
I got closer and zoomed in a bit. I got a nice close-up of this inviting little place, creating a nice, warm, and friendly holiday atmosphere.
On the riverbank, just outside Ollies, there is a colorful notice board to make you feel welcome. According to this board, you should also be able to rent paddle boats, canoes, and rowing boats to spend some fun time on the lagoon.
Let's take a look at the kind of money you can expect to spend inside Ollies.
At the time of writing this post, the exchange rate is R18.68 for $1.00.
I couldn’t find a lot of information about Ollies online, but from what I did find, it seems they have a menu ranging from about R20.00 ($1.07) for a Starter Meal, and all the way up to R220.00 ($11.78) if you want to delight yourself in 12 Queen Prawns. There is also a platter for 2 available at R260.00 ($13.92) (Credit to: restaurantguru.com where I found a copy of the menu from Ollies).
Although we knew we didn’t really have the time to go inside and enjoy something inside, it was still worth it to stop over and just start exploring the area a bit.
So yes...Ollies Pub & Grill might pop up as a topic for a post one of these days.
And that’s all for today, folks. Thank you for reading my post!
I do appreciate it!
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Thank you for your support, @pinmapple! I do appreciate it!
Great pics - looks beautiful. For some reason I have a desire for pizza now :)..
I wonder why...😅? Thanks for the kind words! I do appreciate it! Enjoy your weekend (and pizza)!
This place on the river bank looks nice and I think the prices are good, or at least similar to what you get here in Argentina. Is a meal for two $13 there? That would be around 6000 ARS here and for that amount you can find something decent for dinner. I hope next time you have some time to sit down and try the menu at this place. Happy Friday!
Yes, you are spot-on, @lauramica! You can get a meal for two for $13 there. So that is similar to what you get in Argentina? That is very interesting! Thanks for sharing that with us!
Yes, we are looking forward to sitting down and trying the menu soon👍!
Have a great day!
Hi! Yes, with that price in dollars you can get a good lunch. The problem is that our salaries are not dollarized so it can be a bit expensive 😅
We have a similar problem here😅! That is why I sometimes mention that these prices need to be taken into perspective. Looking at it in dollars, it seems to be cheap, but locally it can become expensive. These prices mentioned in my post, aren't too bad, but the minute you go higher than this, it can start getting expensive...

Starting immediately, #MarketFriday will be paused for a period of time. I want to thank you for your support along the way and I look forward to seeing you back when I resume the posting concept.
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
#MarketFriday loves you!
