Down With The Sickness

It’s been a heck of a winter season for us! My poor son has come down with another bout of the flu, we are doing all the letters now lol! Flu B this time which was lovingly given to me. Sharing is caring!

You definitely don’t appreciate the normalcy of not being sick until you are in the trenches of it and struggling. I’ve been lucky enough to gone most of the winter season without getting sick but the two times lately have really knocked me on my ass haha. I hate when you are feeling it come on at the end of the day - where you’re feeling tired more than you should and then your body aches. That’s when you know you’re in for a ride!

I’m lucky in that I’ve got sick time at work which I know is a luxury for a lot of people - it’s not something that everyone gets. I still worked for a few hours but I was able to sign off and focus on resting and getting better.

The crazy part about it all is that we rely so much on some of the basics of modern culture and manufacturing. Being able to get cold medicine from the store down the street is a wonderful thing - and having access to information which can help us get better such as home remedy’s for the sickness like garlic, onions and soups. Yes these things have existed for a while but the ease at which we can access them these days is important!

We’ve got a lot of the things down for helping us get better. Knowing which medicine to take when seems like it’s a little basic but it can help with the overall recovery for sure! I’ve got lots of the alternative things in the house and those work really well such as echinacea and goldenseal. Those things are powerful as hell!

I’m really hoping that I can sleep well tonight and wake up tomorrow feeling a lot better than I do now, it’s not guaranteed but it would go a long way to helping me get back to my duties as a dad!

That sucks man but I'm glad you're feeling better! Today I'm feeling better than yesterday thankfully, not out of the woods yet but considerably better. I had a fever all day yesterday but it seems to have broken now thank god lol

I hope you feel better soon!!

In my 20s I had chronic bronchitis. It would come and go several times a year. Working at the health food store, several people recommended I try a wheatgrass shot, so I did. It smells like lawn clippings, so I had to plug my nose to get it down and then guzzle the grape juice or pomegranate juice chaser (apparently don't do citrus for the chaser as that will negate the effects), but it worked. It would make me belch all night, which tasted like carbonated wheatgrass, lol, but by morning I felt better!

Of course, many people don't have a juice bar nearby, but it was so useful since I worked somewhere with one.

That's an awesome story lol a lot of people don't know how important these natural things are! I had a small patch of skin cancer on my head and did a bunch of different things but you know what worked? Soaking an organic eggplant in organic apple cider vinegar, and dabbing a cotton ball in it and putting it on 4x a day. I saw improvement in 3 days and I think it was 2 weeks and it was gone. I've still got the scar to remind me of it thankfully. This was 2 years ago now, maybe 3. Was some scary stuff but it's important to not freak out!

Im glad the wheat grass stuff worked for you!

Yeah it was - the various compounds, tannens in the plants are pretty wild.

Sorry if you’re squeamish but this thing was definitely not something normal lol. It started small then grew bigger over 4-5 weeks and wouldn't go away if I left it alone.

I think a week after I was doing the ACV

Wow. Well tannins help my betta fish - they are good for his immune system. So it tracks that they could be good for humans, too.

Of course we only acknowledge the importance of good health when we fall sick. I hope you and your son recover from the sickness especially the flu. Thanks for writing and have a great weekend.

Getting heavy headed when we're sick is a very uncomfortable feeling, you just can't do anything but rest. Natural remedies like garlic can be powerful in limiting the effects of the flu and gradually help on recovering from it. Get well soon :)

I've never been as sick as I have since 2024. By the end of 2023, I was bragging that the last time I'd been to a doctor for anything other than a vaccine was at least 2015.

Which means: 9 years without getting sick.

Then, a week after New Year's: 4 days sick with a stomach bug.

A week later: an untreatable cold.

And here's the latest: some kind of flu.

I'm better now, but it took a lot out of me. And at home, I wasn't the only one. As much as this winter has been very mild here, I've been very tired.

Ah that's not good man! Make sure to keep up with your vitamins like C, D and zinc at a minimum! My wife and I learned of an amazing way to deal with a stomach bug - get activated charcoal! That stuff is amazing and absolutely crucial to have in the house. It absorbs everything in the stomach so if you’re feeling nauseous take one of those and it will absorb the nasty stuff and you poop it out later. Same thing if you’ve got diarrhea- it absorbs the nasty germs that cause it and slows it down to remove it. We always have 2-3 bottles of the stuff in the house! You can get it off Amazon for sure but could also get it at pharmacies too - I don’t know how France is (I think that’s where you are) for that.

Hopefully that’s the last bit of sickness you have to deal with!

Yes, I'm in France, that's right.

I think I can get hold of some very easily because I know a lot of people who do. My grandmother told me about it, so it's probably as old as time. I really have to be careful with all this.

Sometimes I get stuck in a very bad lifestyle. Especially when I have a lot of work to do:

  • I drink very little water
  • I go to bed late
  • Sitting in front of screens all day

I'm probably lacking a lot of vitamins and other things at such times, which can't be helping my situation!

Oh for sure I know what you mean man! It's important to try and get up a couple times a day even to just walk from your desk to another room and back. Drinking sufficient water is crucial but also to flush out the junk! Vitamins help but water is the best. I know how that is though when you’re in the middle of something for work or other things you’re focused on it’s hard to get away to do things but we have to make time.

Sickness!
When it comes, it renders the body totally useless. So bad!

I don't get sick often but whenever it lands on my body, it's always hard to pick up to strength again.

I wish you the quickest recovery sir

So sorry about that sir. I hope it's better today. Indeed, resting is one of the best ways to treat your body.

And hey, those are some beautiful views you got there.

I wonder which part of the world that is.

I wish you and your son a speedy recovery sir.
