I Cut My Screen Time Down to 2 Hours 🙏🙏

A few weeks ago, I was reminded of what truly matters in life. I was separate from my family for several days, completely unable to function. I had to decide what I wanted our future to look like, what I wanted to be a priority in our lives. Eventually I got to go back home, feeling optimistic, clear-headed, and focused.

I recognized that I no longer wanted to be controlled by distractions. Obviously this is not some "profound" insight; tons of people recognize how easily distractions can become the focal point of our lives.

A heated exchange with a stranger, the evening news at 6, your child failing a math test, binging TikTok videos, dedicating several hours a day to gaming... These can all be things that cause our focus to deter from what's important: experiencing life on this earth! However, self-control is not a skill that everyone can hone...

So I started focusing on what is important: my health and my children. My family is the only thing that matters in this world, and I cannot properly enjoy it without my health. So I finally self-diagnosed myself with hyperthyroidism after several years of silent healthcare professionals. I changed my diet and my lifestyle -- cutting down coffee and weed!~

But the biggest change, the biggest distraction -- and the most important one in regards to both my health and my children -- has been cutting out social media.

Ever since I was 14, I have had a tumultuous relationship with the internet; as much as I enjoy online controversy, the whole thing makes my heart pound 💔 I have always been in a constant state of stress from online arguments, words still reverberating in my head days later -- I am a woman, so sue me!! 😡😭 In the end, it takes so much of my attention away from the things that matter...

Well, ever since my recent metamorphosis took place, I have managed to cut my screen time from 4-5 hours throughout the day, to 2 hours!! 😱 Now, obviously some days are still not perfect; sometimes research and reading online can tip the scale in the opposite direction. But, for the most part, I have managed to eliminate major social media usage -- all while still running an unrestricted Facebook group! 😄

That's right, as administrator, I no longer feel the need to engage with the comments 👍 I have learned to distance myself; my group is not a reflection of me. It took awhile to realize that everyone else's "racist, insensitive" comments do not resonate with me, and they certainly don't represent who I am as a person.

So yeah! 🙏 Just to end it off, I will include screenshots of screen time throughout the recent weeks. I never have anything to hide! 😄

(This was the week where I was separated from my family. You can tell because I spent almost an hour in Gallery, looking at pictures of my kids 😭😔 and an hour on Messenger, talking to my husband)

(The week after returning home. I have marked the day with the highest usage for context)

So, what is your social media usage like? 🤔 And as always, thank you for checking out today's post! 🙏

Another avenue you should look into is blue light! You might be fucking up your brain and many of your hormonal things with blue-light poisoning, so to speak.

This is a greatttttt episode to listen to!

Alexis is fantastic when it comes to how awful blue light is for our bodies!

Personally, I put ALL of my devices into "night light" mode!

I was trying to find a different one and I couldn't but I will figure it out.

I'm glad that you've reduced your screen time dramatically! I can't imagine what my wife's screen time is LOL she's on that fucking thing all day every day, drives me nuts. A bunch of it is important stuff, sure but not a lot of it. We gotta be more plugged into the real world instead of the damn fondle slab!

Keep up the good work! :D

Oh gawd, thank you for this! I have always been suspicious of blue lighting, I've never given into the myth that it "doesn't mess with your eyes." I much prefer the orange iridescent lights...

I try to do the same, my screen brightness is all the way down and I even take off my glasses. I'm very paranoid about this stuff 😅 I also sympathize with your wife, it can be challenging from day to day. Even this morning, I got caught up in internet controversy on and off for an hour before finally saying, no no, this is enough...

Thanks so much for the recommendation! I hope you're having a great week! 😃👍

Cheers! Alexis is a really great resource for all things blue light. Her podcast is called Undoctrinate Yourself and I've learned so much! On the modern phones there's settings to activate night mode. My screen is crazy orange all day because I'm trying to reduce the artificial blue light as much as possible. It helps a lot!

Some of the episodes are a little tough but Dr Jack Kruse talks a lot about the light as well, but he's got a fondness of vulgarity so you can't listen with the kids around lol. He talks about how it messed with the pituitary gland which then messes with the thyroid. It's crazy how it's all related but blue light really messes up our dopamine system and many others.

It's about balance as well. We replaced the night lights in our house where the rooms are with amber ones so the light is closer to incandescent. The blue light night lights are atrocious for sleep!

Then down another avenue and rabbit hole is the Daylight Computer company they have many great podcasts their owners join and talk about how electricity is messing us up too and we can do easy things to improve our environment like unplugging WiFi routers at night while we are sleeping and not having any electrical outlets plugged in near the kiddos because of the electric radiation it gives off.

This isn't meant to scare you but just say we can make some great and very small changes in our environment and improve our health quite a bit!
