A Moment Nature Holds Its Breath: Ilı Lake Poses for a Photo

I don't know if you've ever been to the Nemrut Caldera, but it's a vast and rich natural area that could fill thousands of posts. I've written about it before, but I haven't had any photos or prepared any posts about the period when the area around Ilıgöl is lightly covered in snow.

Nemrut Kaldera'sına daha önce gittiniz mi bilmiyorum ama o tabiat alanı ile ilgili binlerce gönderi yazılacak türden zengin ve büyük bir alan. Daha önce burayla ilgili gönderilerim oldu, şu Ilıgöl'ün etrafının hafif kar örtüsü ile kaplandığı döneme ait ne fotoğrafa sahip oldum ne de gönderi hazırladım.

The caldera is located at an altitude of around 2200 meters. The city center is at an altitude of around 1550-1600 meters. That day, the inside of the caldera was much warmer than the city center. It should have been frozen due to snowfall, but because of the microclimate and the complete absence of wind, the weather was perfect.

Kalderanın olduğu alanın rakımı 2200 metre civarı. Şehir merkezinin rakımı ise 1550-1600 metre civarı. Kalderanın içi o gün şehir merkezine göre çok daha sıcaktı. Kar yağışı ile o bölgenin buz tutması lazım ancak mikrokilima etkisi ve rüzgarın hiç olmayışı nedeniyle mükemmel bir hava vardı.

In Turkish, there's an idiom, "where even an ant could drink water," and a masterpiece novel by Yaşar Kemal that uses it. It's an expression used by fishermen to describe the stillness of the sea. It means the sea, lake, or body of water is so calm that even an ant could drink from it. That day, Ilı Göl was just like that. There was no wind, and not a single wave on the lake. The silence and stillness of the lake, along with the small snow cover around it, created wonderful photo opportunities. The poses were so aesthetically pleasing that I couldn't resist taking pictures.

Türkçe'de ''karıncanın su içtiği'' diye bir deyim ve başyapıt niteliğinde olan Yaşar Kemal'in bir romanı var. Denizin durgunluğunu tarif etmek için balıkçıların kullandığı bir deyim. Deniz, göl veya su birikintisi o kadar durgundur ki karınca bile oradan su içebilir manasını taşır. O gün, Ilı Göl de o şekildeydi. Havada hiç rüzgar esmiyor, gölde dalgadan eser yoktu. Gölün sessizliği, durgunluğu etrafındaki küçük kar örtüsü ile birlikte harika pozlar veriyordu. Pozlar öylesine estetikti ki fotoğraf çekemeden duramadım.

To be honest, I liked the photos I took. More professional photographers could take postcard-worthy pictures from here. As I said before, the lake was waiting for me to take better photos. I took these pictures about 45 days ago. There are meters of snow there now. Although there are hot springs in Ilıgöl, the edges of the lake can freeze over on very cold winter days.

Biraz önce de dediğim gibi göl daha iyi fotoğraflar çekmem için hazır olda bekliyordu. Bu resimleri yaklaşık 45 gün önce çektim. Şu an orada metrelerce kar birinkintisi vardır. Ilıgöl'de sıcak su kaynakları olmasına rağmen çok soğuk kış günlerinde gölün kenarları buz tutabiliyor.

There's a hut right next to Lake Ilı. Someone lives there, protecting the animals. A strong bond has formed between that person and the wild animals. As you can see in the photo, the bears are very close and never attack him.

Ilı Göl'üm hemen yanında bir baraka var. Orada yaşayan, ordaki hayvanları koruyan biri var. Ordaki yabani hayvanlar ile o kişi arasında güçlü bir bağ oluşmuş. Fotoğrafta da gördüğünüz gibi ayılar çok yakınındalar ve kendisine hiç bir şekilde saldırmıyorlar.
