The old and the recent / Lo viejo y lo reciente

Cities and towns, as well as people, live constant changes, some are fast and more noticeable and others take longer to be visible. That came to my mind one day when I passed by a little-traveled street and noticed the contrast between an old colonial house and a recently built building behind it, which broke that old style.

Las ciudades y los pueblos, así como las personas, viven cambios constantes, algunos son rápidos y más notorios y otros tardan más en ser visibles. Eso me vino a la mente un día que pasé por una calle poco transitada y noté el contraste entre una vieja casa colonial y un edificio de construcción reciente detrás, que rompía ese estilo antiguo.

I said to myself then, it's a good subject to go around and look for images, so I could continue practicing street photography.

Me dije entonces que era un buen tema para ir por ahí a buscar imágenes, y así seguir practicando fotografía callejera.

I collected these photos over several days, I felt like a silent witness of the change that is happening little by little in the city, of how old walls are disappearing, made with other techniques and other materials, to make way for blocks, rebar and cement, which dominate the construction today.

Estas fotos las fui recopilando durante varios días, me sentí como un testigo silencioso del cambio que se está produciendo poco a poco en la ciudad, de cómo van desapareciendo paredes viejas, hechas con otras técnicas y otros materiales, para darle paso a bloques, cabillas y cemento, que dominan la construcción actual.

But not everything is demolition, there are houses and other old places that are still standing there, no matter that their neighbors have changed, so that we can see the difference between the old and the recent.

Pero no todo es demolición, hay casas y otros sitios viejos que siguen allí de pie, sin importar que sus vecinos hayan cambiado, como para que veamos la diferencia entre lo viejo y lo reciente.

Those contrasts made me think that in some cases the recent buildings look good and improve the look of the surroundings, but in many others, their designs are not funny at all. I think that the old architecture took more care of the details, the beauty of the forms, something that seems important to me when appreciating a work, what do you think?

Esos contrastes me hicieron pensar que en algunos casos las edificaciones recientes lucen bien y mejoran el aspecto del entorno, pero en muchos otros, sus diseños no tienen ninguna gracia. Creo que la vieja arquitectura cuidaba más los detalles, la belleza de las formas, algo que a mí me parece importante a la hora de apreciar una obra, ¿ustedes qué opinan?
