C is for Caturday!

So, for this Caturday I chose to enter this week Photofeed #macro photography contest.

Our Peach is doing well. I cannot follow his progress with my own eyes, but yesterday I had an extensive report from my wife via telephone. The best part was him dancing around and trying to play with a little hedgehog (who consider our garbage dump as part of his hunting grounds, and checks it on a regular basis, almost every evening). Bad thing it happens when the light is faded, I am not convinced there will be any good photos to display. But I requested my wife to shoot a proper video - I WANT TO SEE IT MYSELF!

A few days ago he defeated a tick.

... and he also sticks his pink nose into all the cracks and holes he can find around, and likes to dive into the space under the house bottom ... alas, his nose is no longer as pink and clean as in the photo above (this is a picture of the cat before moving to the summer house). I will put it honestly: his nose is always gray or even black, dirty with some kind of crap, this or that.

But we still love him!

And the last photo - actually, a crop of the previous one; now you see, why I chose to send it to the #macro contest. This is certainly not the eye of Sauron... but somehow I truly doubt its owner is a vegetarian :)

Lets say: a deceptive appearance! DEFINITELY one should not put a finger into his mouth... or even bring it close to his nose - he counts that as an invitation :) the beast has very fighting hunting instincts. And always displays an unhealthy interest in our toes, even when he sleeps I am sure that he is dreaming of nipping our toes :)

Thanks for feed back, Sir. I guess it was a decent shot, but, see - I always can take another more or less same photo, when / if a good - direct - sun lighting is applied. Thus it is sort of trivia, and thats why I appreciate more the photo of him where he is frightened and raises his fur on end and arches his back, all the things cats do to seem bigger and scare their opponent. I think that was a very "lucky click". Sure thing, our life together with Peach will house many more cool moments to witness ahead; c-a-tertaining! 🐈

Cool 👍- how close do you get to photographing at 150mm?

Tho this photo was taken with Medium Size setting -> 39602640 pixels.
Max size is 58003870, it provides possibly bigger magnification.
BUT the lens has tiny, tiny, tiny! depth of field.
Thus, to have more of the image in focus (like the stamps that I shoot recently a lot) I have to step back intentionally, and shoot from 50 cm and more - just to have more part of the object in DOF zone, with a sharper detalization.

Надеюсь, понятно объяснил. 30см есть, но снимать приходится не с минимальной дистанции.

Не всё понял )) - но я купил себе две книги по фотографии ! Через пару недель выдвигаюсь в Казахстан, потом Узбекистан и потом в Тай. До Ташкента у меня будет 2 разных поезда и я надеюсь их прочитать за время поездки. Надеюсь мне это поможет лучше понять фотографию )

Чем ближе дистанция фокусировки - тем макро- макристее, т.е. увеличительнее; это ясно. Но при этом глубина зоны резкости вообще минимальна - 1 миллиметр. или даже меньше. если я фоткаю (например) марку и хочу не одну букву в фокусе, а всю плоскость марки резкой и с деталями то мне нужно ухитриться расположить камеру строго перпендикулярно относительно всей плоскости марки и всех ее точек. это если она плоская. а если объект не плоский и имеет толщину в 2-3 мм?.. а если это жук толщиной 1 см или там цветок толщиной 1 см? как получить на фотографии зону с глубиной резкости хотя бы 5 мм, чтобы в фокусе был весь жук или 1/2 жука а не один глаз или усик. Для этого надо отойти подальше - тут в дело вступает схема фокусного расстояния из книги - тогда глубина резкости оказывается больше. Что и требовалось. То есть тут выбор в пользу одного или другого.
