Don't ask where we are going. Take your bike and start pedaling behind us. So I took my bike, I just did what I was told. I was on my way to take part in a project launched in 2021. Within the scope of the Ancient Pedal project prepared by the Fethiye City Council, I decided to pedal. The subject of the project attracted my attention as a project initiated to protect and promote the historical, natural and cultural values of our country. I was very happy to take part in such a beautiful project.

Nereye gittiğimizi sorma. Bisikletini al ve arkamızdan pedal çevirmeye başla. Ben de bisikletimi aldım, bana söyleneni yaptım. 2021'de başlatılan bir projede yer almak için yola çıkmıştım. Fethiye Kent Konseyi tarafından hazırlanan Antik Pedal projesi kapsamında pedal çevirmeye karar verdim. Projenin konusu ülkemizin tarihi, doğal ve kültürel değerlerini korumak ve tanıtmak amacıyla başlatılan bir proje olarak dikkatimi çekmişti. Böyle güzel bir projede yer aldığım için çok mutlu oldum.

All cyclists coming together within the scope of the project would pedal on the routes to the cities between Fethiye and Seydikemer districts, which were among the ruins of Lycian Civilizations. They would take a short break at the gateways in historical, natural and cultural sites on these regions and the points we passed would be marked. During this bicycle route, the points where Evliya Çelebi, one of our famous writers who traveled on the Lycian Way in the past, would also be taken into consideration. This project, spearheaded by Seydikemer Municipality, also has an important place in determining all the routes that will enable rural development.

Proje kapsamında bir araya gelen tüm bisikletçiler, Fethiye ve Seydikemer ilçeleri arasında kalan, Likya Uygarlıkları kalıntıları arasında kalmış kentlere yapılacak olan rotalarda pedallarını çevireceklerdi. Bu bölgeler üzerindeki tarihi, doğal ve kültürel alanlardaki geçitlerde kısa bir mola verilerek, geçtiğimiz noktalar işaretlenecekti. Bu bisiklet rotası sırasında, geçmişte, Likya Yolunda seyahat eden ünlü yazarlarımızdan olan Evliya Çelebi'nin de geçtiği noktalar dikkate alınacaktı. Seydikemer Beledeiyesinin öncülük ettiği bu projede, kırsal kalkınmaya olanak sağlayacak olan tüm rotaların belirlenmesi amacıyla da önemli bir yere sahiptir.

Whether it is the Mediterranean coast or the Aegean coast, rural areas and village roads are the safest cycling routes for a cyclist. In addition to these roads being safe, the fact that they are on historical and cultural routes is a great chance for us cyclists. When we look at the Aegean districts of Fethiye and Seydikemer, we see that the ruins of the Lydian Civilizations are very numerous. For this reason, in this project, which is launched as ANTIC PEDAL, we will move on the routes connecting the ancient cities located on the borders of Fethiye and Seydikemer districts. In this article, I will be showing you the pictures I took from the routes we traveled, the hill points where we stopped and the ancient cities.

Bir bisikletçinin, ister Akdeniz kıyıları olsun isterse Ege kıyıları olsun, araçların çok fazla geçmediği kırsal alanlar ve köy yolları en güvenli bisiklet yollarıdır. Bu yolların güvenli olmasının yanısıra, tarihi ve kültürel yol güzergahlarında olması da biz bisikletçiler için büyük şanstır. Ege'nin Fethiye ve Seydikemer ilçelerine baktığımızda, Lidya Uygarlıklarının kalıntılarının çok fazla olduğunu görürüz. Bu sebeple, ANTİK PEDAL olarak lanse edilen bu projede Fethiye ve Seydikemer ilçe sınırları üzerinde yer alan ve antik kentleri birbirine bağlayan rotalar üzerinden hareket edeceğiz. Bu yazımın arasında sizlere gezdiğimiz rotalardan mola verdiğimiz tepe noktalarından ve antik kentlerden kadrajıma aldığım resimleri gösteriyor olacağım.

We are starting from Gocek Incikli neighborhood. About 20 km of road is marked here. We enter the road from Incile beach on the dirt road. We continued parallel to the highway for a certain period of time. When we went on the road, there were roads that split into two in front of us. A few of our cyclists took the wrong road here. When I looked at the maps, we saw that there was a shortcut. If we had taken that road, we would not have been able to see the waterfall on our way. Since the project is in the summer, most of the waterfalls around here dry up in the summer. The last time we can see the waterfall flowing is at the end of March. As we continued on the road, we came across many beehives. After pedaling for about 10 km, we reached the hills with spectacularly beautiful views. As we were trying to reach the hill, we could hear the sound of running water in between. When we looked from the hill, we could see a few puddles of water filtering through the pine and blueberry trees and mixing with the soil.

Startımızı, Göcek İncikli mahallesinden başlıyoruz. Burada yaklaşık 20 km'lik yol işaretlendi. Topraklı yol üzerinde İncile plajından yola giriyoruz. Belirli bir süre otoyoldan paralel olarak devam ettik. Yol üstünde gittiğimizde önümüzde ikiye ayrılan yollar vardı. Buralarda birkaç bisikletçimiz yanlış yola girdi. O kişilerden biri de ben oldum. Haritalara baktığımda, bir kestirme yolun olduğunu gördük. Oradan devam ettik. Eğer o yoldan gitmiş olsaydık, yolumuzun üzerinde yer alan şelaleyi göremeyecektik. Proje yaz ayı kapsamında olduğu için, yaz aylarında buralarda şelalelerin çoğu kuruyor. Şelalanin akan halini en son Mart ayının sonunda görebiliriz. Yol üzerinde ileledikçe birçok arı kovanlarına rastladık. Yaklaşık 10 km pedalları çevirdikten sonra, muhteşem güzel manzaraları olan tepelere ulaştık. Tepeye ulaşmaya çalışırken, aralarda sürekli akan su seslerini duyuyorduk. Tepeden baktığımızda, birkaç su birikintilerin çam ve yaban mersine ağaçlarının arasından süzülerek toprağa karıştığını görebildik.

Our second route as cyclists is the asphalt road between Fethiye and Kayaköy. On this road we have the chance to visit two ancient cities. One of them is the necropolis area of the ancient city of Termessos and the acropolis of Termessos called Hıdırlık Hill. The Necropolis of Termessos is one of the most spectacular and remarkable ancient city settlements of the rock tombs in the Aegean. A temple-fronted tomb on the rocks standing side by side on the forward sides of the rock tombs and a large number of house-fronted rock tombs are also located in this region. In the acropolis area, there are ruins thought to belong to the Lydians and the remains of a small theater stage. In these areas, all of us cyclists take a short break and head towards the mysterious story of our history.

Bisikletçiler olarak ikinci rotamız, Fethiye ve Kayaköy arasında kalan asfalt yoldur. Bu yol üzerinde iki antik kente uğrama şansımız oluyor. Bunlardan biri, Termessos Antik Kenti'nin nekropol alanını ile Hıdırlık tepesi olarak adlandırılan Termessos'un akropolüdür. Termessos Nekropolü, Ege'de yer alan kaya mezarlarının en görkemli ve en dikkat çeken antik kent yerleşim alanlarından biridir. Kaya mezarlarının ileri taraflarında yan yana duran kayalar üzerinde bulunan tapınak cepheli bir mezar ve sayıları oldukça fazla olan ev cepheli kaya mezarları da bu bölgede yer alır. Akropol alanında ise, lidyalılara ait olduğu düşünülen kalıntılar ve küçük bir tiyatro sahnesinin kalıntıları vardır. Bu bölgelerde tüm bisikletçiler olarak kısa bir mola vererek, tarihimizin gizemli hikayesine doğru uzanıyoruz.

Another route is pedaling on an asphalt road with a view of the Butterfly Valley from the top of the hill. This flat asphalt road will lead to Kabak Bay. Due to the diversity of butterfly species, this area is actually recognized as a protected area. From here, we moved towards the settlement center of Uzunyurt, also known as Faralya, our ancient city on the route continuing through the Butterfly Valley.

Bir diğer rotamız da, Kelebekler Vadisi manzarasını tam tepe noktadan gören asfalt yolda pedal çeviriyoruz. Bu düz asfalt yolun sonu Kabak Koyu'na çıkacaktır. Kelebek tür çeşitliliği sebebiyle bu alan aslında SİT alanı olarak kabul edilmiş. Buradan Kelebekler Vadisi üzerinden devam eden rota üzerindeki antik kenttimiz de Uzunyurt diğer adıyla da Faralya yerleşim merkezine doğru hareket ettik.

Within the scope of the Antique Pedal project, we will continue to pedal at certain points to protect the value of our ancient cities with historical and cultural values. Until we meet again on different routes, stay with love and nature.
