Skinky was a very happy guy...

...and let me show you why.
048 Z.jpg

He is a Cape Skink (Trachylepis capensis), and he lives in our garden.

Fridays are always happy days after a week of slog, as then the weekend is in everyone's mind. Except for those that have to work on weekends, and for them every second Friday is a happy day as it is their weekend off. So, we hope that you will enjoy the weekend wherever you are in this world of ours. I have tried to create this post with a bit of humour added, to keep you happy.

Skinky can sit like a statue for hours, but I got lucky to see how good he is.
044.JPG

In a flash he pounced, and he caught something. It was way too fast for my camera.
046.JPG

Just look at that happy swallow.
047.JPG

How's this for ambition. A fruit chafer landed on the pipe at the right, and a small Gecko was sizing it for lunch. Of course, he was dreaming as the fruit chafer was way too big for him, and the fruit chafer only had worries that Skinky was around.

And now for something else.

This Romeo was trying his luck with a lady.
063.JPG

Whispering how beautiful she was in her ear.
065.JPG

But the lady was clever, and she told him that she was pregnant, and her husband was a champion cage fighter. It worked like a charm, and Romeo scattered at a little more than a snail's pace. Lol
066.JPG

I was a single parent child, and my mother was a very attractive lady. Prospective wannabee Romeos lined up to court her over the years, but of course they were only interested in one thing, as my mother had 3 children, and my gran also lived with us. My mom had countless sweet talkers after her and the snail story here so remind me of the wit that my mom had to put them off. A few got very nasty, and I learnt a lot about the quality of men at that time. One major thing that I learnt was to laugh when one feels hurt, and it still helps me to this day.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Skinky is a handsome devil, especially in that first photo where is smiling. You are lucky to have him guarding your garden. I once watched a gecko fight a cockroach that was bigger than he was. I didn't see how it ended, but the gecko was winning. Thank you for for sharing the photos as well as the fun commentary.

Thank you, and yeah, almost nothing gets past skinky, and the good news is that there is also a small one running around.
I know that geckos can attack big prey, and I have posted one with a cockroach that it eventually swallowed. Glad that you liked the post.

Wow, that is impressive. How long did it take to swallow? I think in the gecko vs. cockroach battle I witnessed, it had been roughly 10 minutes of stalemate back and forth between them. You must really have patience to keep up with the quiet lives of the garden creatures.

Yep, and it also took a while for the gecko to start the swallowing process, but I didn't time it. Patience is second nature to me. !LOL
