Antenna's and Lamps
A while back I started taking photos of rooftop antennas and street side lamp posts. I don't know what it is exactly, but there is just something about them that appeals to me. It's like doors and windows I guess. We all know that I have a "thing" for them - I've done a lot of posts on them over the years. I take photos of these sorts of things as whenever I see any that appeal to me and I save them until I have enough to showcase them in a post. I've been saving these ones for years now and I think I'm finally ready to share them with you; maybe it was the warning that I received on my phone indicating that I'm running out of memory...
Anyway, lets take a look at what I collected, starting with one I like to call "Dark silhouette with criss-crossed clouds." Okay I never said that I was great at coming up with titles.
Next is a curly-cue lamp post. Notice how the blue and green colors compliment each other.
Should I alternate between antenna and lamp? Let's see how long it lasts.
Oooo Black and white. So moody. So ominous.
Some of these I really had to zoom in to capture which blurred them a little.
I don't know how I feel about it.
Another lamp post, similar to the first one but with some added florish and some clouds in the sky for effect.
Something I've come to realize is that old antenna really go well with old rooftops. They seem to fit together nicely.
This next lamp was seen in Austria. It's the last I got of the lamp photos but it's one of the best in my opinion.
Here's a few from different sections of the same building.
Sometimes I like the messiness of the aerials. I like things to be a bit grungy at times.
There are different looks and different types of antenna, but I don't know what the difference is between them. Age, brand, function - who knows?
This next shot is from Paris. Lots of antenna all in one small space, as one would expect from such a large city.
I really like this one (below). It's like, slap the new outdated technology onto the really old outdated technology. There's a strange sort of beauty to that that I can't explain. It's like it represents the human condition in a way. If that makes any sense at all?
Look at this triumphant bastard. It looks high tech and futuristic to me. I saw it in Spain.
Here it is from another angle.
This shot is from the same location and shows a clustered mess of different aerials all over the rooftops
Well thats all of them. What do you think of aerials on rooftops? Are they an eye skre or is there a sort of beauty to them? Let me know in the comments if you'd like.
When I saw the title, this was the first thing that came to mind.

This was a creative idea, and it made me think of some ingenious antennas that I've seen in Jamaica and also of satellite dishes.
#MeToo :)
I could see Jamaica having some cool aerial and satellite dish set ups on their roof tops.
There are almost no aerials on rooftops in he part of Canada that I live in anymore. You only ever see them on farm houses or very rural communities. Maybe that's why I find them appealing. They are reminiscent of times past or something ??
Yeah, there's just something nostalgic about aerials - I remember as a kid, being sent to turn the antenna till we picked up reception 🤣
Haha a common experience for a lot of us I'm sure 😂
I think this is my favorite post of the day. You are right when you say we all have a thing for windows, for me it’s the paintings about people at windows and balconies. My favorite picture from this post is the tenth, the one in Austria.
I really like murals around windows as well. You see a lot of them in the Bavaria region of Germany. Love that area.
I also have a thing for windows especially when it is a story building. I love views from up
all your pictures are beautiful!
There is something about a bank of windows that is very appealing 😁
Thank you!
unusual, different, eclectic and a clever subject!
Thanks! Glad you appreciate it 😁
you're welcome
Ehhh, that lamp with green poles looks so pretty. The antenna's shot with the sky as a background looks really cool. Still, your fascination 5o these are really weird, but it's not bad ot course, I just find it weird hehe. I only appreciate this kind of things if for example the antenna's looks really pretty and cloudy sky is shown, esp for the tall ones
It is a weird thing to be fascinated with. Sometimes there is beauty in weird though, in an "eye of the beholder" kind of way. Glad you liked a couple of them at least lol.
