A Photo-Story in Red

When I was younger I did not like red one bit.

I did not like the vivid colors. I preferred darker ones and mostly was wearing black.

That changed after I grew a bit older and especially since I started taking photographs. I have learned to appreciate vivid colors, and especially pure, bright red.

I try to bring red flowers in my small garden and I plan to take even more photos when my now green tomatoes turn red! (soon I hope)

In this post I would like to take the opportunity and share some interesting facts about color red!

Did you know?

  • Red was one of the first colors to be used in prehistoric art pieces. Red is created from clay which turns red after a reaction to the mineral hematite. source

  • Red in hair is considered to be the rarest color. It is said that only 1-2% of the world population has it and it is caused by a genetic mutation called MC1R.

In Greek, red is κόκκινο ( kókkino).
The world probably derives from κόκκος (kókkos), which means grain or seed.

The word red* comes from the Old English word rēad, which was used for various shades of red, purple, pink, etc. The word derives from the Proto-Germanic word rauthan, which in turn comes from the Proto-Indo-European root reudh- meaning "red, ruddy" source

In China, red symbolizes happiness, prosperity, and luck! Did you know that Chinese brides wear red wedding dresses?

Last, but not least...
Red color can make our heart beat faster!
Why? Because red is a stimulating color evoking strong emotions such as excitement, passion, or danger .

I remember as a kid I somehow loved these ladybugs; in fact, I was obsessed with them playing and observing them all the time when being in my school playground. After reading this article somehow I recollected those buried memories thank you so much for sharing as it really helped me realize my childhood memories.
