(ESP-ENG) Wildlife Watching at the Manzanillo Refuge - Avistamiento de Fauna en el Refugio el Manzanillo

Hello, dear photography-loving friends of Hive, my name is Cesar Garzón, and together with my friend @torrecoin, we have started a project to preserve the biodiversity of the Colombian Pacific. We are located on a beautiful farm in the town of Felidia, less than an hour from the city of Cali. Through native tree planting projects, recording and recording rare species, ecotourism, and various other initiatives, we want to contribute our grain of sand to the great cause of protecting the planet's biodiversity.

Hola queridos amigos amantes de la fotografía de Hive, mi nombre es Cesar Garzón, y junto a mi amigo @torrecoin, hemos iniciado un proyecto de preservación de la biodiversidad del Pacifico Colombiano. Estamos ubicados en una hermosa finca en el corregimiento de Felidia, a menos de una hora de la ciudad de Cali. Por medio de proyectos de siembra de arboles nativos, registros y evidencias de especies poco comunes, Eco-Turismo y diferentes iniciativas queremos contribuir con un granito de arena a la gran causa de proteger la biodiversidad del planeta.

We have spotted a large number of birds, from fairly common birds in the area to rare and difficult-to-spot birds. Many of these birds are highly prized by wildlife observers and biologists, who see them as a great treasure to be discovered. One example is the male Red-headed Antpitta, which is not very common and is said to have inspired the famous protagonist of the Angry Birds video game series.

Hemos divisado una gran cantidad de aves, desde aves bastante comunes en la zona, hasta aves con pocos registros y difíciles de avistar. Muchas de estas aves son muy apreciadas por observadores de fauna y biólogos, que ven en estas aves un gran tesoro por descubrir. Un ejemplo es el Torito Cabecirrojo Macho, que no es muy común y se dicen que fue la inspiración del famoso protagonista de la saga de videojuegos Angry Birds.

Different types of amphibians and reptiles, in this case what appeared to be a Coquí frog, this famous frog from Central America and recognized for its distinctive sound, were ruled out due to significant differences in size. While a Coquí frog has a maximum size of approximately 2 cm, our mysterious friend measured a little over 5 cm, which rules out the possibility of it being a Coquí. If there are any experts in the community, we'll welcome feedback as quickly as possible.

Diferentes tipos de Anfibios y Reptiles, en este caso lo que parecía ser una rana Coquí, esta famosa rana procedente de Centro América y reconocida por su distintivo sonido, la pudimos descartar por diferencias grandes en su tamaño. Mientras una Rana Coquí tiene un tamaño aproximado de máx. 2 Cm, nuestra misteriosa amiga media un poco mas de 5cm, lo que nos descarta la posibilidad de que sea una Coquí. Si hay algún experto en la comunidad recibimos retroalimentación de la mejor manera.

This clown grasshopper undoubtedly surprised us with its incredible colors. Personally, those colors on insects leave me somewhat impressed and make me think they're dangerous or poisonous. But in the case of our colorful friend, it's completely harmless to humans, although it can be very dangerous to certain pests and small insects.

Este saltamontes Payaso sin lugar a duda nos sorprendió con sus increíbles colores, personalmente esos colores en los insectos, me causan cierta impresión y me hace sentir que son animales peligrosos o venenosos. Pero en el caso de nuestro colorido amigo, es totalmente inofensivo para el ser humano, aunque puede ser muy peligroso para ciertas plagas e insectos pequeños.

This Marbled Snake or Snail Snake is one of my favorite photos, since its characteristic markings are very noticeable and the shape of its head reveals that it is not a poisonous snake or also known as vipers.

Esta Serpiente Jaspeada o Culebra Caracolera, es una de mis fotos preferidas, ya que se nota muy bien sus marcas características y la forma de su cabeza nos revela que no es una serpiente venenosa o también conocidas como víboras.

A chick of the Emerald Toucan, a rarely seen and little-known bird that has sparked much interest among researchers for its semi-migratory habits and its way of coexisting with its fellow species. At the Manzanillo Biodiversity Refuge, we had the privilege of being visited by an entire family of these birds. We will soon publish a special post on this interesting topic.

Una cría de Tucán Esmeralda, un poco avistada y no muy conocida Ave, que despierta mucho interés en investigadores por sus hábitos semi migratorios y acerca de sus manera de convivir con los de su especie. En el Refugio de biodiversidad el Manzanillo tuvimos el privilegio de contar con la visita una familia entera de estos ejemplares. Próximamente haremos un post especial sobre este interesante tema.
