I currently live in the middle of the city and have for the past 3 years. One of the things that I appreciate most when I go back to my childhood home, where my parents still live, is the abundance of nature that surrounds the property. I grew up with the luxury of being able to play outside with a neighborhood full of kids my age. That type of thing is pretty uncommon today as most people sit inside on their screens all day long.

This childhood home I speak of is convenient to pretty much everything, yet feels like it is far out in the woods. It's really such a great place. One of my favorite parts of the house is the fairly new back deck area. We always had a back deck when I was growing up, but it was very basic and never an area that we frequently used. Around the time that I finally moved out, my parents decided it was time to revamp that area. The results were nothing short of amazing.

Their back deck still has that rural nature vibe to it, but now it has all of the modern amenities of a very nice back deck. Half of it is covered, there is fashionable furniture everywhere, a fire pit, a standing cooler for drinks, and a ceiling fan, and the yard is even fenced in now so dogs can roam free. When the weather is average to warm, it is my favorite area at that house. I could easily spend a large portion of each day out there.

That’s exactly what I did when I was dog-sitting at this home a few weeks ago. The weather was perfect and the dogs love being outside, so I spent many hours out there for the 3 days that I was there. It may seem predictable at this point, but I also captured some photographs of myself while I was enjoying the lovely outdoor living area.

In a couple of the photos, you will see me sitting in a colorful Adirondack chair. This is actually a piece that I painted many years ago during my artistic era. I am still surprised just how good it turned out. I went in thinking I had no idea what I was doing, then I realized that maybe I did have a bit of artistry within my soul. The chair doesn’t look brand new still, but it has held up very well, especially considering the fact that it sits outside throughout the four seasons here in WV. That means it sees a little bit of everything, extreme sunlight, rain, and snow.

These photos are a continuation of the series of me taking photographs in various parts of my mom and dad’s wonderfully decorated home. I hope you have enjoyed and stay tuned for another one in a few days where I will be in a beach-themed bedroom.

That's one thing they don't have is a grill, which is odd to me. My mom just cooks everything in the kitchen which is right next to the back deck door.

It was a great way to grow up. We created trails in the thick brush just by roaming the same paths daily for years. Now those same paths are overgrown because kids don't play outside together anymore.

Thank goodness, because it was one of the few remaining hairstyles left for me to go with. I love rocking bald though, it's very easy to maintain and I never have to worry about bed head.

I love that photo. Wearing my favorite colors, a shirt with one of my favorite cars, and a beautiful chair that I painted many years ago. All outside on a perfect weather day.

Wonderful to spend a few days in the house where we grew up, where every dream began to take shape and the blessing of having our parents close by further fueled the joy of life.

Although my mother currently lives in the city there was a time when we lived near the mountain. The memories of that place are my greatest treasures. The contact with nature, the river, the birds, the rabbits and the forest itself gave me the most rewarding experiences of my adolescence.

And it was there that the talents that we all carry inside began to show themselves as well, as you well mention dear @daltono.

A real pleasure to read your publication. I congratulate you and thank you very much for sharing these life experiences that to me in particular bring me very good memories and I find very comforting!

Best regards!

P.S.

With your permission, I would like to share the address of one of my publications. It has been published for quite some time and it was an inspiration and part of the experiences lived in that unforgettable place.

Now for such a backyard I won't mind at all!

If I own property I'd sure as hell start a jungle in the backyard!

Your description of your childhood home and the transformation of the back deck is beautifully nostalgic. It's heartwarming to hear about the connection to nature and the memories of playing outside with neighborhood kids.

The way you've captured the essence of the revamped back deck, with its modern amenities and the rural nature vibe, is vivid. It's a testament to how a well-designed outdoor space can become a favorite area for relaxation and enjoyment.

The photographs add a personal touch to your story, especially the colorful Adirondack chair that you painted, showcasing your hidden artistry. It's remarkable how it has endured various weather conditions.

Overall, your writing conveys a sense of warmth and appreciation for the comforts and memories associated with your childhood home. Looking forward to your next installment with the beach-themed bedroom! 🏡🌳📸
