A PEAKY BLINDERS-INSPIRED SHOOT I DID LAST YEAR

I just randomly remembered these images I took sometime last year, which I never posted on any platform. I only delivered them to the client, and they’ve been sitting in my Google Drive ever since.

Come to think of it, I guess the thought of having a shoot soon made me go back to check them out. It's been a while since I did an actual shoot, it's been almost a year or even more. I was involved in photography during and after NYSC camp, but those weren’t the typical photoshoot sessions that would contributeto my growth. My photography page is practically dead, but my comeback will be soon😊

When I took this particular gig, I wrote about it here on Hive, but I never posted the results. It was a Peaky Blinders-inspired shoot, specially requested by the client. Funny enough, I hadn’t even seen Peaky Blinders at the time—I still haven’t 🫠.

Still, I took on the gig, watched a few YouTube videos to get a sense of the vibe, and I simply showed up after. The good thing is, the client is a very good friend of mine, which made the whole experience even better.

He picked out the outfit himself, and although a few elements were missing that I would have loved to include, we still did pretty well. I chose the venue—an ancient church in Abeokuta, Ogun State—to add a timeless vibe to the images. Honestly, I think the location was perfect. I loved how it synced with the concept and the overall mood of the shoot.

While editing the images, I was a bit tensed because I really wanted my friend to love his picture and fortunately, he did. If I were to re-do this shoot in 2025, there are definitely a lot of things I would do differently, but that’s the beauty of growth. I'm still super proud of what I achieved a year ago, and I decided to share the results here.

Let me know what you think. Did I nail it?, or....you know🫠

The black and white versions are my absolute favorites. I love them so much.

As for the shoot I’ll be having later this month (or early next), I’m really looking forward to it. I want it to be one of my best works because I’ll be pouring my heart into it. Although I’ll need to refresh my memory on a few things (especially retouching). I’m just super excited to get back into it.

I even have some old images I’ve been meaning to edit, and they’ll be perfect for practice. It’s about to be a busy couple of weeks, but hey, I’m sat! I’ll definitely write all about it too.

I came across a random photoshoot online a few days ago, and I couldn’t help but think about how much I have to learn to be up-to-date—because damn, the editing was insanely clean! I hope to reach that level soon... and even surpass it.

In fact, I think it’s time I start saving up for a camera. I just hope adulthood lets me do that in peace 😅. Gadgets have become so expensive, and honestly, I’m just hoping for a miracle to happen so I can get one soon. So help me God.

Thanks for reading ❤️

Hi @creativepearl - I enjoyed the Peaky Blinders series on Netflix a few years ago. I like your third-from-top sepia photo the best. You mentioned wanting some accessories; yes, I'd add a watch chain and a tie. Your friend's peak lapels are wild! 😄

Yeahhh, a watch and a tie would have made it way nicer. A prop smoke would do so good too, considering the online images of Thomas Shelby I saw.

Thank you so much for your comment.
