Songs For Speeding Tickets

Every once in a while you come across a song that seems to make the accelerator sink to the floor of its own accord. Used to "I'm sorry officer, Freebird was playing" could sometimes get you out of the consequences of that but it just don't work like that no more. Since it's Tuesday and I have an abundance of photos from Street Rod Nationals, here's a roundup of some songs for speeding tickets (and the cars to get'em with).

First tune is Little Black Submarines by the Black Keys. The summer after this came out I'd just gotten my license back and was driving a 78 Firebird not too different from the Camaro pictured above. Quickly developed of habit of going grocery shopping at two in the morning just so I could have the expressway to myself. I'd put that tune on and when that electric guitar kicks in, man that bored out 350 would roar.

I know there's some Mustang lovers out there, so just to show I forgive you I included one. Anybody else have a family that was a bit particular about brands when it came to things that went vroom? With us it was Chevy, between my dad, uncle, and cousins I think they had every pony car Chevy made.

Second tune is Copperhead Road by Steve Earle. Should have known better than to take this song on a road trip but I couldn't help it, nearly got me a ticket in Rocky Mountain National Park. Would have gotten me a ticket if there'd been anywhere for the ranger to turn around. Yet another reason to love high elevation and twisty mountain roads.

Had to include this because it reminded me of my old 86 Chevy, first thing I ever raced anybody in. Was racing a feller who is now a cop (we were teenagers then) on a back road in eastern Kentucky when he tried to pull some Dukes of Hazzard shit and wound up in the front yard of a church. Guess there's a reason the Duke boys weren't driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

This third and final song of #threetunethursday is one that did get me a speeding ticket, Never Gonna Change by the Drive-By Truckers. It's good music for getting into all sorts of mischief but especially the lead foot variety. I was jamming to it on my way back to Louisville one day when I had the misfortune of encountering a DoT cop hiding in the dip between hills. He clocked me at 80 (129kph) at the top of the hill and there was no way I was getting out of that one. I was just happy 80 was what he wrote down...

Mopar? You mean No Power? If you talk like I do it rhymes.

Alright, enough of me talking about cars, who else has songs they've gotten speeding tickets to?

It is, I included for you, remembered your weakness :)

You wouldn't happen to know what model year it is? It's second-generation but I don't know my Fords well enough to know which year.

Only way to do it, if you try to listen to them all at once it just gets messy.
Thanks for dropping by!

Loving the motors man, always liked Mustangs, just something about the look of them. I did a road trip from LA to Vegas before driving one and it was a sweet ride in a convertible.. Them tunes are good especially the Black Keys one

Hell, if you'd had some LSD you could have reenacted the first part of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Even without the drugs that has to be a helluva fun run. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
