Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ83

Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ83 Bridgecamera

My new equipment arrived.

I got a Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ83 Special Edition.

It was a decent deal, way under 500 bucks, and came with a Peter Hadley bag, the LONDON COLT I, and a Peter Hadley 32 GB SDHC Professional high speed memory card with a data transfer rate of up to 100 MB/s. Also included a Li-ion battery, AC adapter, USB cable, shoulder strap, lens cap and strap.

The Lumix FZ83 offers a 20mm wide angle with a 60x optical zoom and a 18 megapixel MOS sensor. A focal length of 20-1200mm / F2.8-5.9, 4K at 30fps, Post Focus & Focus Stacking and a Fast Hybrid Contrast AF.

I don't wanna bore you with all the tech specs. In the end I would just copy them but if you want more infos let me know and I get them out.

My first impression was man, it is light. The camera is mostly made of plastic, hence the weight, but thanks to the roughened grip it feels great in the hand. With its light weight, it is well suited to take with you.

The Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ83 offers all necessary functions on the camera body. You can easily switch ISO, shooting modus etc pp. Throughout the next time I will get used to handling the camera with its different modi and options.

It has a touchscreen display, though it is not movable. My Nikon D5000 had a swiveling display, which was comfortable in certain situations.

The camera has a built-in flash, but it doesn't activate automatically. You have to manually activate it by pressing a button. I don't mind it.

I took some quick test shots. Just snapshots in automatic mode (P).

20mm

1200mm

Can you see the birds in the first ones? For a quick snapshot the pics came out decent. Light conditions weren't too bad either. There is no editing.

Right now I will go ahead and learn some camera settings. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and a bit warmer, so time to get out and shoot a bit.

See you around!

Thanks, trying lol. Let's see if affordable can be still good. But in the end it is the person behind the equipment right?

With enough light, the photographer takes the good picture. In daylight, a reasonably up-to-date smartphone for €250 is usually enough. In low light, it's only possible with a suitable camera.

Agreed. My smartphone takes great pics, just the focal length is missing. Now I can at least try to capture some eagle-blackbirds in the distance. 😂

Hehe, I wouldn't call it a big gun, but I'm trying. Btw, has nothing to do with this but I saw sth last week and had to think of you. Sounds creepy I know. Check it out starting at 4:25 if you like. I know it is Germenglish but understandable for everybody. I laughed so hard 😂

New gadgets always a blast. I think you're going to have great fun with that nice zoom. Can't wait to see some Joy action shots!

Lol, Joy and action. With Molly I had the action. But I try to capture him in movement, he runs for like a couple seconds lol. Joy stands a lot though. He is a typical Bulldog, unlike Molly who was a sport 😄

Toll!
I have the little sister, Lumix DMC-LX15, as I wanted something that I could easily stick in my pocket when out walking our dogs.
And it took me aaages too to decide! 😄
Looking forward to some pictures!

Wanted to pick up a solid camera for casual wildlife and outdoor shots — something with zoom range but without the hassle of switching lenses all the time. The Lumix DC-FZ83 looked like it checked a lot of boxes, but I’ve been burned before by models that look good on paper and fall short in the real world. Ended up checking out user stories on https://panasonic.pissedconsumer.com/review.html to get a clearer idea of how it holds up over time. Found helpful info on autofocus speed, battery life, and menu usability, along with some warnings about firmware bugs. It gave me a better sense of whether it’s good for everyday use or just occasional shooting.
