Give people colored paper and they will be happy
International street theatre festival in Bucharest, Romania. Also called B-FIT In The Street. The twelfth edition took place at the beginning of July. After a three-year break, caused by the pandemic, street performers flooded the city streets again!
I live in Bucharest and eleven editions of this festival have passed me by, in the sense that I ignored them. I think I didn't consciously ignore them, I don't think I'm that stupid but I'm lazy and I may not have participated and because of that, I may have been out of town, being organized only in summer, the month of holidays and vacations.
The city's central boulevards and squares were the venue, filled with locals and many tourists lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
I wanted to see as many of these performances as possible, although it is called a theatre festival, it is not the theatre we are used to. It's mostly short acrobatic performances and parades of fairy-tale characters, big dolls walking and dancing among the passers-by. Colorful characters and very kid-friendly.
As any photography lover does, I prepared myself to capture as many images as possible knowing that such an event is the best chance, especially if it takes place on the street, for spectacular snapshots.
The first concern was to charge the camera battery. The frequent moments in my life as an amateur photographer, when the battery ran out before the end of the events I attended, made me very careful with this preparation. I also charged my phone battery (thankfully!).
Then, of course, I was very careful not to forget the camera. Also due to some unfortunate previous events I had to be careful about this aspect as well.
When something has to go wrong, it will go wrong no matter how cautious and careful I am. There is always a disturbing factor, a disturbing being, this time none other than my wife!
My wife didn't go with me to the street theatre festival, but she went to a conventional theatre premiere on the same day and wanted to go together to the places where the two events were going to take place. The problem was that there was a difference between the two events. For the street theatre, there was no specific time to be there, at the other performance, where the wife was going, the start time was strict and did not allow for delays. Because of this, we had two different ways of expressing ourselves, while I was calm and not in a hurry, my wife was nervous, late, and nervous...
Of course, she passed her condition on to me, forced me to run away from home, and... I forgot to put the fully charged battery in the camera!
Oh my god, I had to shoot with just my phone!
How fortunate that I had something to shoot with!
I would have missed a great opportunity to photograph people on the street without having to take so many precautions that they wouldn't notice me.
This time everyone on the street was only paying attention to the show, plus everyone was photographing everyone. There was no more room for upset and protecting... privacy, haha!
Although the performances weren't perfect and perhaps not the greatest performers and acrobats, the spectators were happy.
Here I have used footage taken from the performance of the French aerial acrobatics troupe TAWA. The show was well done and performed, it had suspense and dangerous moments, given the height at which the acrobats performed but the most appreciated part was the finale, where millions of colored papers were spread.
*The visual effect was total, viewers were happy! *
Give people colored paper and they will be happy!!!

A very colourful event indeed. I like such event all over the world and I would like to participate in one at least. This seems like that of India where people paint each other :)

What a lot of fun! And everyone looks happy.
Really, it was a joy I have never seen in my fellow citizens.
Wonderful! It should happen more. Not less. Happiness should be a common sight. Not rare
I think so too, but I know it's hard to be that way.
It seems that people felt very good in those moments, a smile in the corner of the mouth can do wonders.
That's what I found too, lots of people enjoying themselves like children, which made me happy. Maybe we still have a future!
Thanks for reading, @triplug!
I wish I could agree with you 100 percent on ,, Maybe we still have a future!,, but I have some reservations.
Otherwise, yes, Romanians know how to have fun.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
Thank you! It can't be done without doubts, I agree.
You're welcome!
Have a great week ahead.
I myself love these kinds of festivals in which people gather with friends and relatives to have a lot of fun as you can see in these pictures and throw colors at each other.
