The Season of Dust, Chill, and Pure Comfort

Who else loves cold weather like me? This is always my best season ever. It’s December, and if you are in Nigeria, you would know it’s that time of year for the Harmattan. It’s always a cold and dry season.

To begin with, every season change, and so, we humans adjust to suit our bodies and ensure we are healthy and safe.

In my part of the country, we have two main seasons: the rainy and dry seasons. The rainy season runs from April to October, while the dry season runs from November to March.

The dry season is always my favourite because everywhere is dry, unlike the rainy season, when you can't go out freely without considering the outfit you are wearing, especially shoes suitable for muddy areas.

I knew what I went through during the rainy season. There was a time I literally walked through a pool of water on my way from church because the rain poured down so heavily, as if it was angry, that even one of my slippers almost went with it. I don’t usually enjoy myself outside during this period, except when I am indoors and have nowhere to go. That is the only time I would prefer the season.

This is December, and I am already feeling the dryness and dusty areas because it’s harmattan season. What makes it even more interesting for me is that, even though it’s always hot during the day, I enjoy the cooler nights. And guess what? It still won't stop me from turning on the fan, sleeping naked and enjoying the intense breeze around me.

I have never been a fan of sleeping with blankets covering my body; I’ve never done that, even as a child. I was told how I love to sleep even without clothes, which I do.

This is also the time when, if one isn’t careful, they might have catarrh, but I don’t bother about this. But of course, there would be some adjustments to make this season, which has always been my usual way of doing things.

I usually use lotion cream in the other seasons, but now that everywhere is dusty, I rub Vaseline on my body to create a protective barrier that won't dry out my skin.

I wouldn’t want to be walking along the street and my body and legs looking like I just returned from the farm, where everything about me would scream dust and all whitey. Vaseline is always the perfect choice for this season.

Also, I have these lip glosses to keep my lips moist to prevent them from drying out and cracking. My sister sent them recently, and it was as if she knew I would be needing something like this to keep me warm during this time.

This season won’t stop me from moving, but I just need to be careful about what I wear outside so my body doesn't absorb too much dust and also because putting on white outfits might not be an option except I won’t be going to far places.

There’s nothing new about this season to me because it’s something I am already used to with the things I need to keep in mind to stay safe and warm. But with the vaseline and lip glosses, I am good to go while enjoying the cosy weather.

To be fair, I thought that places like Nigeria don't have seasons at all :) I mean...where I'm from, there are 4 seasons and winter means that nature is "sleeping" for 3 months as it's too cold for plants to grow.

This made me burst out laughing😅😅😅 So you like fan even in this cold weather

And you're right, Vaseline always comes through during the Harmattan. So we don't look like homeless people.

Hehe. I also love the winter season. In my region the coldness is more compared to your country as far as I know based on google data and so in my country I also need to careful about my skin. Lips is is the most concerning in my opinion as it dry easily.

Yes, the lips dry easily and it’s good to have some gloss to keep it moist all the time.

Princess oo, lol, sha I understand the need to still put on fan and all. But you know towards the ending of the month it would be more and more cold.
I like you are already ready to tackle the season as it's expected to be.

I love this weather too but I don't really
love the dust. I love the cold too but the dust is a no..The only season my oily skin turns to dry skin.

Yes, this is the season where we have dry skin more often and we must be prepared. That dust, too is a no for me. I don't like it.
