KISS BLOG IDEAS: WEEK #169/ I am vintage: 1973

I am Vintage: 1973

Being born in the last century, in 1973, makes me appreciate old things. It is part of my DNA to evoke the past time. I love everything retro. From music, objects and even clothes. It's not that I'm a person who doesn't appreciate contemporary. No. I love to merge retro with avant-garde and modern.

At home I have a lot of antique objects. Most of them are inherited objects or gifts that other people have given me. Those objects, each one, have their own story, of how they came into my hands and to whom they belonged. Knowing and telling those stories is wonderful because then the objects stop being objects and become characters.

I try to mix those vintage objects with more current or modern objects. That's why I might use an antique piece of furniture and put vibrant colored cushions on it or use an object, like my famous iron plate, as a stand for books. I don't want my house to look like a museum of antiques, I just want to give new uses to objects that fell into disuse, reinterpret them.

For example, I have recovered some wooden furniture, which had suffered the ravages of time. Recovering them and giving them a new lease of life, I love it because people are impressed, amazed by the timeless, classic beauty and more than one has believed that I have spent a fortune, but no, they are just furniture that I have given a second chance.

The same thing happens to me with clothes. Not only do I usually go to bazaars or garage sales to see if I can find retro clothes, but I donate or give away my clothes from time to time. Of course, I also have clothes that belonged to my family and they are like relics to me, because they are clothes that speak of who we are, who we were: they are clothes with a lot of history.

But I don't only like vintage in decoration, in clothing, I also like it in manners, feelings, dealings. I prefer to go to a friend's house and have a coffee or a beer rather than call them by cell phone; I prefer to cook and eat at home, rather than go out to a restaurant; I love that men are gentlemen and women are ladies. I like to read a physical book, write by hand: in other words, I am an old soul.

This is my participation this week in the Kiss Blog #169. If you want to participate, here is the link to the post of the initiative.

Friend, now that I see your CDs I thought about mine again, where I keep photos that I can't even see because I don't have a way to play them.
I like that furniture.
Do you miss bell-bottoms? Hahaha... just kidding.😆😅
