My Phone: The Less That Is More

avatar

When I saw this writing idea asking about the items I’m most attached with, my mind didn’t even think before my phone appeared on the scene.

My phone is completely a part of my life — it’s the last thing I touch before going to bed and the first thing I touch when I wake up in the morning. If you’re surprised that I mentioned the phone as the first thing I touch when I wake up and expected me to mention the Bible, being a religious fellow — nope, the phone comes first. I use it for light, time, and even the Bible app that I make use of is there.

I think phones should be the complete definition of "Less is more". Just a simple mobile tool that does numerous things 👌.

I know they say that too much of everything is bad, but when it comes to my attachment to my phone, the case is different because my phone is my everything, even during the day. My clients communicate with me through my phone, and for someone that works like that, you don’t expect me to do away with my phone — as some people easily flag off the use of phones for days and weeks, and nothing happens to them.

I find socialization in life more fun and easy with my phone, and it doesn’t cost a fortune like how the regular pay for transportation in the physical world does. With my phone — just a click — and I’m connected with people I want to connect with at that moment, and I can even see them face-to-face via video calls if I want to.

I wonder what it could be like visiting a nice place without my phone to take photos and share.

The fact that my excessive attachment to my phone doesn’t work against some principles of my life, such as my minimalist lifestyle, makes it even better and more enjoyable for me. In fact, with my phone with me, it reduces the need to use other gadgets such as a desktop or laptop system. No, no, I don’t need them, as my phone can completely do anything digital I want to. My immediate younger brother’s laptops are always at home, and I don’t see any need to use them — except maybe when I want to transfer files from my phone to a flash drive, which I do on a seldom note.

As funny as it may sound, I don’t even have a wall clock in my house. My phone serves as that, and to me, that’s a way of saving money — both from buying the wall clock and from regularly buying batteries. Even the calendar I was once given by the elderly man close to my shop — months would pass before I ‘mistakenly’ remember to flip it to the current date.

Normally, any excessive attachment is supposed to have a big negative effect on the user, but for me and my phone, there’s actually no cause for alarm — for now.

Thanks for reading.

We get attached to our phones one way or another, especially when you're a digital person. It's sad that many just get attached for little or no good reason, but doom scrolling and a waste of time. Today, your phone could be one of the biggest attachments in your life, because to even communicate, and do other things, like time, light, alarm, date, schedules, you find it handful, resourceful and effective.
I never thought of the cost implication having a wall clock, I guess I do better now and maybe that's why I don't have one too, haha.

You see that phone. Eeeh. It a serious thing. The addiction is not a joke. Most times I think we all have to take it important because of the purpose it serves. To some it might not be as important

Yes, our phones are important to us, and it appears the most attached device. The reason is not far fetched as you have rightly explained. Phones do more for us.
Well done. Stay safe and keep it safe.
