FREE TO MOVE: UNBURDENED

If there is anyone living with less possessions, that would be me and some others, hehe. It started when I first got admission into the university. Prior to then, I have always had the mind of cutting down the things I had because I knew very well that I don’t make use of all of them. At first, there was this girl I normally give out my stuffs to that are no longer my size or things someone has given to me that they allow me to share with others. That particular day I remember giving her almost half of the things I had because even though I know some were still useful, I just told myself to let it go and besides, I felt she deserved that much.

At the end of the day, all my clothes could size just two medium sized boxes and that made me very happy. Although I had different times when I look for some of the clothes I gave to her to wear and then I remember that I already gave it out, lol. It wasn’t easy at first cutting down my possessions and having less. But then, it helped me when I got to school. Because my parents weren’t financially stable at that time, I had to stay with a very good friend now a sister, even though her place was very far from my school. I was just grateful I had a roof over my head.

All I had was just my box of clothes and a little bag where I kept my foot-wears. Not that I couldn’t afford getting more clothes or shoes but I just didn’t want to because I knew the ones I had were just enough. That period I was able to save up some money for myself because I had plans of getting a phone which I’m using now. Having less things in my possession made me fit into just anywhere. All through my stay with my friend, I made sure that none of my belongings were a burden to her even though I later had to buy some school books but I still managed it well.

She loved me staying with her a lot and I did enjoy living with her too. But sometimes I wonder how it would have been if I had so much possessions going to live with her. When I was done with my exams, and returned home, she decided to relocate and before leaving her place, I didn’t carry all my belongings because I still had plans of going back there to further my education. Well, thanks to having less possessions, she was able to move my things to her younger brother’s place and they didn’t occupy so much space as he could easily put everything in a carton under his bed.

Now I have more things than when I first came to school but then, I still have less compared to back when I was at home. Having less possessions just granted me freedom of moving with unnecessary things. If I had more things, I’m very sure I would’ve had need for them but because I intentionally learnt to live with the little I had, it made that time of my life way easier. And now in my new room, I also have few things and my room is very spacious thanks to that. If my roommate leaves, the room will be very spacious because 70% of the things inside belongs to her. Maybe by then I’ll consider buying some other things that are important but for now, I’m enjoying living with less.

Thanks for reading through. 😘

Am also like that, I don't like going out or having too much stuff. Once I notice my wardrobe is getting congested, I look for someone or people to give out my clothes.

And I don't travel with much stuffs.

That’s just the best. If we have few we will value them more even.

I can just imagine if you had plenty things. I’m sure some would have even gotten missing in the process of moving it.
I laughed when you said your roommate has a lot of things and they occupy 70% of the room. I was that roommate until I saw the light and I’m glad I did o because certain things of mine could get missing I wouldn’t even notice until I’m ready to use them.

Exactly! Having so much makes us lose sight of them until we are in need of them. It happens to my roommate a lot of times. I might tell her I want to throw away something because I notice we don’t make use of it and she will agree but immediately I throw it way, let’s say 2 weeks after she will be asking me if I saw that same thing, lol. 😂

I just had to learn to live with her to avoid misunderstandings. I’m glad you have found the light o.

Your friends are very supportive. And you were organized too. Am sure they wouldn't accommodate much property if you had taken all your stuff there.

Yeah, it would have made it harder for them to accept me.
