Nineties Friday, Silver Was Cheap, And Some Great Tunes As Well!

Happy Friday everyone! Last week I skipped on Nineties Friday, so this week I am back. #ninetiesfriday is a fun weekly event started by my friend @geneeverett where you can share just about anything from the decade of the 1990's, your imagination really is limit. And usually one lucky participant walks a way with a nice HSBI prize! Feel free to jump on in and share in the fun.

Back in the 90's I started to collect Silver Eagle bullion coins. These are produced by the United States Mint using the Walking Liberty design that used to grace the half dollar coin here in the US. In the 90's I travelled pretty extensively so I didn't always have a lot of cash to invest, but every year I bought one of these coins. In retrospect I wish I had bought more, but I was young...

Have a look at this beauty from 1999, I got the image from eBay as mine is stored away in secure storage.

Ebay, Pinehurst Coin Exchange

In 1999 you can see the price of silver per Troy ounce, wow it was cheap at $4-5.

From SDbullion.com

Today silver is $36 dollars per Troy ounce, and I believe I paid $12 or 13 for mine way back in 1999. Not a bad return! The coin pictures above is retailing for $54, so had you had bought a bunch at the time you could have made a nice investment! It's always a good idea to invest in silver and gold...

Now onto some fun stuff from the 1990's!

Seinfeld

This was a one of the top show ever produced for television. There are a lot of great episodes, but when he drops Kristen Davis's toothbrush in the toilet was hilarious:

And now some music from the decade...

Metallica

This band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, California and produced a string of hits throughout the decade, but were never truly mainstream until 1991 with the release of their self titled "Black" album. With hits like "Enter Sandman" and "Unforgiven" they became one of the biggest bands in the world. This also came off the same album, "Nothing Else Matters".

Soundgarden

Formed as a band in 1984 in Seattle, Washington, they were fronted by the late Chris Cornell. Along with Nirvana they helped bring the grunge movement to the world. In 1991 they released the album Badmotorfinger that made them a mainstream band thanks to several hit songs, including this one "Outshined".

** Pearl Jam**

Another Seattle band formed in 1990 they quickly found their way into the mainstream grunge movement with their album Ten. One of their biggest hits off the of it was "Alive".

Stone Temple Pilots

This band from San Diego, California formed in 1989 and after a name change hit the mainstream with their album Core. One of the biggest hits off of the record was "Plush".

Shakira

Shakira is a Colombian singer/songwriter that rose to fame in 1995 with the release of her album Pies Delcalzos (Bare Feet). At this point she became a star throughout Latin America but it wouldn't be long before she became a world wide superstar are went blonde. This is "Estoy Aquí" (Here I Am).

That will wrap up this week's Nineties Fridays. I hope you enjoyed the post today and please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Thanks for all of your support, I greatly appreciate it! Have a great weekend everyone!

Good old Shakira. It's pretty amazing the staying power she has had. I think that really speaks to her talent! A nice selection of 90's nostalgia this week! That Seinfeld episode was so good!

From 1999 to 2025 is such a long time, but since you're a collector and not as eager to quickly flip it for some profit then I think it's great investment. Buying 10 to 50 of these and selling at the current price is decent returns. The best investment is the ones you're not even looking to quickly take profit from.

There are investors that bought cases full of them to flip at the right time. I'm sure they're think about it now as silver goes up higher and higher!

I think that's good for them, honestly, it's a decent investment opportunity if you ask me. You've been collecting for such a long time.

The way the world is going silver could hit up to $100 at some point. Won't be anytime too soon though!

But it'll still be a win for anyone who is alive by then or even the person who gets to inherit a stash of silver coins.
