The Weather Girls

It's raining men!

And it came a little too early! It's only February, not May😁 These months (January until April) used to be dry but it seems the season changed this year. It's good though, there won't be a need for the farmers to pump water from the river for their crops. And that means savings for they don't have to spend money on gas to run the machines, so yay!

The downpour inspired today's choices for Ablaze's TTT. The first song below popped into my mind (and I was humming 🎶"It's raining men, halleluiah, it's raining men"🎶 when the rain poured. I don't recall when or where I heard it, didn't even know who sang it. So I did a quick search and learned it was by an American duo composed of Martha Walsh and Izora Armstead. Accordingly, they started as Two Tons O' Fun as a backup singer for Sylvester until 1979 when a recording company signed them up.

They released this song and changed their name to The Weather Girls. So here it is!

It's Raining Men

Released in 1982, this fun, danceable song is over 4 decades old already!

This peaked at number one on the Dance Chart and forty-sixth on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The song was nominated for the Grammy Awards for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

It had been ranked 35th by VH1 in the 100 Greatest Dance Songs and 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 1980s. Paste Magazine ranked it 12th in their list of The 60 Best Dancefloor Classics. It's Raining Men, often perceived as a gay anthem, was their biggest hit.

And the next tune:

Well-A-Wiggy

This showcased yet again their powerhouse vocals. The two are quite charismatic, aren't they? The song has a fun beat and watching them dance made me wanna wiggle my hips too😅

Accordingly, due to poor promotion, the song only peaked at number 76 on the US R&B Chart but didn't make it into the US Billboard 100.

And here comes the third tune which was from their fourth album of the same title:

Big Girls Don't Cry

This track which drew influences from the 1960s sounds described as "formula pop-soul and dance filler" was released in 1985 and unfortunately had little success. The duo disbanded in 1988, and Martha Wash went solo.

Well, that's about it for today. Just as I am about to publish this, the rain stopped after pouring for over 5 hours. We discovered other artists this afternoon which I will surely share next time.

Until then, here's to a fabulous day (night), frens!

Whoa, the weather can be extreme. Yes, many are happy as their crops have been watered by nature.

Thank you, Meya. The Girls had their moments :)

Never heard those songs before and I think I don't have the intention to listen to those again as those don't match my preference. I am not a fan of music but I am picky one when I listen it.

You have your preferences Inti and no one would force you to listen to those you do not like😉

The weather of our city has also changed, February is going on but it is not cold here. If we look at the last few years, it was so cold during those days that we could not leave the house. This song is quite interesting.

It seems the weather is changing in most places. At least the cold is not too much in your place and you can go out whenever you like.

Haha a first for me hearing these. Now I heard the older version of Big girls don't cry though. Probably didn't hear because it's not exactly guy music, hehe

I've been stuck listening to the first song "it's raining men" and I'm in awe of their vocals and their charisma of course 😂

These months (January until April) used to be dry but it seems the season changed this year

This is indeed a good occurrence for the farmers but I can't help but think what if the climate takes a turn for the bad it doesn't rain again? The changes in the climates are getting terrifying by the day.
