This is “Bear”……not so long ago he was a tiny puppy!😊
“Silvertop, just yell at Bear, if he starts following you, he thinks he’s something now!”🤔
I really wasn’t sure what Kurt meant, when he said Bear “Thinks he’s something now”……………..
That’s when in between his barking at me, I started hearing a very deep sounding growl!😳
When Bear was a puppy, I always talked to him on my hike uphill.
This was usually all it took for him to leave his yard and start following me, wagging his tail in excitement!
He has always been a very good boy!😇
For some reason, he has become protective of his home turf!😮
The growling continued, and intensified in volume………….
Hmmm…….😮
I figured the best thing was to ignore him, not look at Bear at all, and continue up the road!
As I passed “His” home, he ventured out into the road…………
The growling continued………..
I rounded the bend, and I guess Bear decided he had put Silvertop in his place, and he returned back home.☺️
I continued hiking, enjoying a day in the Mountains, it was beautiful today!🤗
I pulled out my iPhone, and asked “Grok3” about the temperament of Grand pyrenees dogs.
“Silvertop they are known for being gentle, calm and affectionate, especially with their families! Historically these dogs were bred as livestock guardians, so they have a strong protective instinct!”
Maybe Bear was just have one of those days, I’ll give home some wide berth for now…………
Liz said……..”Remember Silvertop you are still carrying “Bear” spray in you backpack Lol!”🥰🤣

I'm not really sure..... it might be he doesn't have enough social interaction with people outside of the home!!🙄
Oh, Bear is quite the character, @silvertop! It's amazing how dogs can transform from cute little puppies into fierce protectors of their home turf. It sounds like Bear has really taken his role seriously—channeling that protective instinct to keep an eye on the neighborhood. 😊
That deep growl must have been quite something to hear! Good on you for handling the situation calmly and giving him the space he needed. Grand Pyrenees dogs do have a reputation for being gentle and affectionate with their families, but they certainly don't shy away from guarding their territory.
Liz's reminder about the "Bear" spray is both hilarious and practical—always good to be prepared! 🥰🤣

Years ago we had friends that were breeders of Grand Pyrenees, they are always very friendly!😊

That is odd that he has become suddenly aggressive with people he already knows. That is weird. Looks like all of the white stuff has melted away making your hikes easier and hopefully less cold! How are the new batteries working out?
