Two countries, one city. My Actifit Report Card: September 20 2025

Cieszyn, PL was a ducal seat from 1290 to 1918. In its long history, it hand only two ruling families - first the Piast (Polish royal house) then from 1654 the Habsburgs. The overlords varied (kings of Poland and Czechia, then emperors of Austria), but the duchy maintained its uniqueness and semi-independence. This ended in 1920 when the duchy and city were divided between Poland and Czechoslovakia. The left-bank of the now border river Olza / Olše was named Český Těšin.

This weekend I had promised my dad to be the driver for him and his friends. I wasn’t able to do my Saturday mountains hike, but did manage to have a pleasant walk in a city that spans two countries- Cieszyn in Poland and Český Těšin in Czechia.

I will prepare a longer and more detailed post on my other account, @klub-wloczykijow. Let me just end here with saying that I had ice cream on both sides of the border. The sellers were… Ukrainian girl in Cieszyn and a Turkish man in Český Těšin ;-)
