dark moody nightshots with a dash of glee : July 7 2025

stunning! and now i feel shameless in appreciating my own picture. it is not always where i get shots like these, it definitely pumps you up to take more shots. a big part of making a shot is really timing, being there at the right place and time.

but i guess, the timing that night was just perfect. i don't know, i felt that all the shots i took were great. but then i have a pretty low standard for photography, and i am easily amazed by stuff. these colorblind eyes of mine gravitate towards the dark high contrasts, blues and greens. and i guess i am a romantic, or probably i romanticize things even those without meaning. i love pictures which evoke emotions, mine usually evoke loneliness. i guess that is the usual feeling you get at night.

but sometimes i get to capture joy. and that is what i love more. i find it harder to capture joy at night. i guess that depends on the place as well, japan is more known on the serious and formal settings. so i was very much satisfied when i saw people just happily performing in the streets. it is but a rare occasion specially in this side of town where most people are ageing. street performers are probably more common in the hip, trendy and young cities of shinjuku and shibuya, but taito is for the drunks and old. oops, these performers must have also drank, but still they were having so much fun.

i saw how they turned off the lights in this baseball field, and i was bummed for a second. but then this single light made the shot more dramatic, i think. a single light gave that movie effect. but then, i was outside a fence so does that make it more dramatic? i loved how the green turned out though. or was it because of the contrast post editing?

i was nearing the end of my walk when these lanterns came into view. i guess it is for a festival, but the the sponsors were the major "love hotels" of the area. i wonder what type of activities they will have. what ever it is, it must be "fun".
