Shepherd's hut & Actifit August 2 2023

avatar

I suppose you know who/what shepherds are, right, shepherds are those people who guard or take care of flocks of sheep that graze on meadows, hills, and mountains. If you're a shepherd and you're in charge of a flock of sheep at a high altitude on a mountainside, you don't really have many options to go somewhere in the evening to sleep in what we now consider "civilized" conditions.

Therefore, depending on the country you're in, you'll sleep in an improvised hut, usually made of wood.

These here are well-insulated against cold and rain, have a very comfortable bed with a mattress, and inside, they have electricity and light.

You'll enjoy fresh air, tranquility, a view you can't see every day, and especially a relaxing atmosphere in the evening next to a camp fire.

Sometimes you don't need more than that to feel disconnected from the madness of the world we live in.

But, you should skip these photos above, because those are not the original huts where shepherds sleep. Check the last photo – doesn't it look shitty? The constructions in the other pictures are made especially for tourists eager for a mini-vacation in more challenging conditions, but those huts don't compare to the original ones where real though people have to sleep.

Oh my......well I guess for the tourist, but it's too bad the real shepherds didn't have it so nice. I'd probably sleep with the flock; that way, at least I'd be warm!

Even today in some areas the real shepherds still sleep in this kind of improvised huts, especially if they are located somewhere in the mountains, they need to be really close to the flock as bears and wolves often come by to visit.

I would think they'd also have to be fearless as well. Just how do you drive off a bear or a wolf, presuming you have no gun?

Most probably by making lots of loud noises, but usually, any flock of sheep has a minimum of 4-6 guards of this kind:

Ah yes, the faithful sheep/herd dog!

Phoenix comes to stay tomorrow evening, so our upcoming posts will be full of her. She is a unique doggie! Take care!

That would be a difficult life my friend, but beautiful scenery!😄
It takes a special kind of person to be able to do this for a living and give up all creature comforts!😄
Now if I could go home every night and get a good nice shower.....😇

I wish the following would be only a joke, but its the reality.
You said that It takes a special kind of person to be able to do this for a living ... and I will say YES, a almost always drunk person. Oh well, that's how life is, everyone lives by his own rules.

Wow, what a beautiful place. I would definitely stay there for a night or two. Sleeping close to nature with stunning view and being safe from rain is a perfect little adventure for holidays.

Hi @drlobes,
Great to see you using the #travelfeed tag! We launched the #travelfeed curated tag more than 5 years ago and have been supporting the best travel blogs on Hive ever since. But did you know that TravelFeed has evolved? Based on the feedback of thousands of Hive travel bloggers we created TravelFeed.io.

TravelFeed.io brings together all the benefits of Hive decentralized blogging with features that you as a travel blogger will love: Photo galleries, Instagram embeds, custom maps, post scheduling and more. And if you want, you can even use our easy site builder to set up your own travel blog on your own domain which can be a great way to generate a passive income from your blog!

Unfortunately, focussing on developing the best platform for travelers means that we no longer curate the #travelfeed tag. But, you can log in with your Hive account on TravelFeed.io to publish your next travel post, and it will be posted to Hive automatically! Every day, we select the best posts and reward them with an upvote and added visibility.

We would love to see you on TravelFeed.io soon :)
