🤩😳🦜What An Epic Bird! 😳 🤩🦜

Check out this amazing bird I stumbled upon today...It just looks so... archaic!

Damnnnnn! Looks like a creature straight from the Jurassic Period, doesn't it? 🦕🦖

Scientifically described as Rhinoplax vigil, this amazing bird is commonly known as the helmeted hornbill and occurs in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Thailand and Myanmar.

Not surprisingly, the bird is best known for its distinctive appearance characterized by a large casque that unlike other hornbills is almost entirely solid and used for head-to-head combat among males.

Sizewise, their body length ranges from 110 to 120 cm (43–47 in), without the tail feathers. With them included they gain another 50 cm. For males, the maximum reported weight is 3.1 kg and females 2.7.

They are believed to be monogamous and breed once a year.

Unfortunately, this beautiful discuss is critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching for its casque, which is highly valued.
