Three Tune Tuesday / Evening Groove・Jazzin with more Japanese Jazz
Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Evening Groove / Three Tune Tuesday post.

As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.
I've been sharing some Japanese jazz for the past few weeks. I thought I'd do the same today. I don't know the history in detail, but jazz really took off in Japan in the 70s and has remained very popular to the present day, so there are a lot of great artists to introduce!
The groups I've been sharing so far have been from the 70s, but let's jump up a few decades for this post. Today I'm going to introduce a group that goes by the name United Future Organisation (sometimes referred to as UFO). The group is headlined by Toshio Matsuura, Tadashi Yabe, and Raphael Sebbag. They combined hip-hop and jazz, and pioneered acid jazz in Japan. In the late 90s Matsuura quit, but the other two continued to put out great music.
Let's look at three of my favorite tracks. I'll give you plenty of links to explore them more if you like what you hear.
(note: as I schedule this post in Ecency a few days before it will post, none of the YouTube embeds are showing up in the Ecency preview. Hmmm. I will keep them in just in case it's just the preview that's broken, but I'll also put a direct link to the songs)

I Love My Baby (My Baby Loves Jazz)
This is the 4th track from their 1992 album Jazzin'. This is a really groovy intro to them, I think, probably my favorite from them. It's not as wild as some acid jazz can get, just a nice funky collection of sounds. This track features Ryoichi Ogura on sax and Norio Shibuya on trombone.
If you are like me, you'll just hit that repeat button and let this play for awhile.
Pretty good, right?
Loud Minority
The other standout from Jazzin', in my opinion, is this the sixth track. Featuring Ayumi Obinata on keyboards, this one is more uptempo than the last, just bursting with energy.
The only problem with that one is it ends too soon!
The entire album is just killer. Follow either of the last two embeds to YouTube to find the entire album in a playlist, or this link should take you to the playlist directly.
Labyrinth - Enter at Own Risk
Let's now jump to their 1999 album Bon Voyage, this is the last track of the album, Labyrinth - Enter at Own Risk.
The real cool standout on this track is Hiroyuki Komagata playing the sitar. It's not often we get the sitar in jazz. This is a really great track.
If you liked that, here is a playlist that has the entire album. I'd recommend Niji for a second to try.

So what's your favorite?

Glad you enjoyed it!
Music is always a force that nourishes our soul and gives positive energy to us. The variety and grooves of the tracks you choose are really enjoyable. For me, listening music makes me to get rid of the stress of the day and gives an inner feeling of relaxation. Even, there are days when I realize that I don't close Spotify at all when my computer is on, only sometimes I turn the volume down and up)
I've done that many times, just turned the volume down to near nothing but leaving it as background.
Interesting. The first track has an early 90s East Coast hip feel to it, sort of like Digable Planets in a way.
Yeah it does—maybe that's why I like it so much. It's a great fusion of styles.
Awesome stuff! I've gotta be honest, I am more of a traditional jazz guy, but I do like some of this other stuff. The type I don't get is the experimental stuff that is just screeching horns and things like that. I can't wrap my head around it :)
haha yeah, some types of jazz can get pretty wild. I appreciate it all, but I do tend to go back to the more classic stuff more often. I've probably listened to my Miles Davis CD Kind of Blue so many times it it were a record, it would be all worn out.
I totally understand that! That is a great album!
Nice one man, more velvety jazz for my ear drums, great background music here as I get a few bits done. These tunes are right up my street tbh.
I am going to have me a little "Jazzin" the album on my next car journey, nice one brother..
