Baby, What's Your Sign?

Do people still use that as a pick up line? I suppose not, since many stats from many countries show Gen Z is no longer interested in dating or sex.

Anyway!

When I was young I learned that my July 6th birthday made me a Cancer. Turns out, that is about 2000 years out of date. The earth wobbles in its orbit, but we are still using the sign dates that we set 2000 years ago. It seems like based on the stars that are actually behind the sun when July 6th rolls around these days, I am Gemini.

Whoa. I don't think I know how to be a Gemini! Don't I have to have an evil twin to be a Gemini or something? This is heavy.

I came across this interesting piece from the New York Times. The Times has a paywall, but I think I can share a free view. Try this link. If that doesn't work, here is a paywall busting link.
It's an interesting story. The scientiftic name for this "wobbling" that I mentioned eariler is axial precession. Basically the Earth wobbles like a spinning top and the full circle of this wobble takes 26000 years to complete. Along the way, the star the North Pole points to (Polaris, the North Star) changes. Nearly 4500 years ago when the Egyptians were building the pyramids, the North Star was Thuban.

Our view of the stars shifts approxmately 1% every year. This means that over centuries, our view of the zodiac constellations also changes.

Anyway, it's all very fascinating. Go to the link above and see what your adjusted sign is.

Interestingly, I wonder how astrologists deal with this. The article claims that astrologists are well aware of the problem but that they ignore it, finding it convenient to continue basing the system on the stars as they were 2000 years ago.

But I wonder if that's accurate to all astrologists. @opidia, what do you do?

I love Geminis. They are usually quick thinkers, adaptable, and smart. One of the only signs that can keep up with me. That is, if they are actually Gemini... Aha..and Cancerian, the watery emotional sign.... I like them too. I have a Cancerian moon. Could be bollocks. But either way, I think we would get a long IRL.

My sun is Libra but I think I'm a good balance between my sun and moon. It's a lot of air with us though... Hubs has a Gemini moon as well

your mind is definitely connected to air energy.. and ultimately you need the same kn a partner.. good aspected moon and mercury are the most important when it comes to relationships.

i actually use all types of astrology.
i focus more on geocentric since it is the root and doesnt change...so i dont care about the so called spinning ball.
but if we think that one constellation is hidden ..13 months, 13 signs ( the serpentaire being the 13th ) and if we apply vedic astrology with 22 degrees difference... plus lunar , progression , solar return etc... its a lot of details to integrate..which is what i do for over 20 years now.
i also do couple astro which is very complex but fascinating , events and cryptos astro.
its a real passion.

It's very true that our view of the heavens changes over time. They have used old star charts from antiquity to date them by location of the stars they recorded vs today. It's fascinating! I never really got into astrology, I guess to my scientific mind doesn't see how some distant stars or planets can affect my day to day life. But then again, who knows?

I usually take the astrological signs with a grain of salt but their dynamic, in terms of characters and personality is very interesting to observe for me. Disciplined Saturn, Benevolent Jupiter, Dictatorial Sun, etc. People do sometimes mirror such behaviours subconsciously.
