Hits by Jmartins [Part 1]

Greetings!

Yesterday, while listening to the radio, I heard a collection of J Martins songs, and I was amazed. The only thing I could say was, "Where is J Martins?" The guy appeared in the music industry, dropped some great hits for four to five years, and then disappeared. He left the music scene so quickly, and I wonder why that happens with so many artists. They could have at least kept going until their songs naturally lost appeal, or don’t you think so?

I followed J Martins from the beginning until he stepped back from music. Although he released tracks toward the end of his career that didn’t reach a wide audience, some of them were really interesting. But they didn’t gain traction because he was already fading out by then. That’s the music industry for us.

Among his tracks, these are the ones I loved and still love to the core:

Cool Temper:

This should be rated as his best track so far. For someone like me, who doesn’t always focus on the seriousness of lyrics, the words of this song captivated my heart. They carry deep meaning. This song encourages those going through life’s tribulations. If you’re losing repeatedly, there’s always a winning day ahead.

He specifically mentions some scenarios:

  • If your spouse or fiancé is cheating on you and you’re feeling down, don’t let it depress you. Don’t dwell on the thought too much; instead, let it go and move on with your life. It sounds so simple, right? Yeah, it sounds simple, but it’s not easy. Still, that’s how we should handle life—no depression.

  • He also sings about how God’s sweetness surpasses all earthly pleasures, saying, “Beans and rice, all kinds of sweet food, God is sweeter than all of them.” This reminds us to believe in God because His goodness can overshadow all bitterness in our lives.

Oyoyo:

Songs can bring back memories, right? Whenever I come across this soft tune, I’m reminded of the way @cheeamaka reacted to it one day when I posted it on my WhatsApp status. Oyoyo was a major hit back then and one of the songs that put J Martins on the global stage. Everything about this song was perfectly done—no rush—and it has a smooth, easy feel, like a song for the big leagues. It’s easy to dance to, and that’s part of its charm.

Another notable aspect of the song is its video. Seeing all those different celebrities (musicians and actors) dancing in the video is a real flex. I love the combination. The song is also about taking life easy—no need to rush; life is meant to be enjoyed, not endured.

Good or Bad:

I’ve written about this song more than twice. You can’t mention J Martins’s career without talking about this timeless banger. In this song, he featured P-Square (the most “troublesome” twins on the planet right now!) and Timaya. The music video also included appearances by celebrities like Banky W, Obiwon, KC Presh (now defunct), and many others. It was all love back then.

I want to make a part two of this article because there are still many interesting songs left to mention.

Thanks for reading.

Lol, I remember JMartins and his unique style of singing. That oyoyo track was a hit as kids liked that phrase back then.

I wonder where he is too 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, Oyoyo still gives the bang it came out with when it was released.
Jmartins is now into politics in his home state... I've been seeing his posts

J Martins cool temper is my best so far.
And it is sad he left the music industry.
We still enjoy his hit songs.

The guy was so good and he left so soon.
Making good music was easy for him just like the way Psquare, his relatives did back then.
