Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 90 - Astra Militarum, Tank Commander

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Astra Militarum, Tank Commander

The Astra Militarum rely on Officers giving Orders to their various unit. One of the Officers that can give Orders to Vehicle unit is the Tank Commander.
The Astra Militarum have datsheets for 7 different Leman Russ variants plus this Datasheet. You can field a max of 3x of each datasheet. This means you can run a list with only Leman Russ tanks and you won't have enough points to run them all... You could go for 2 Commanders and around 9 other Tanks for a total of 11 Tanks.... hmmm... not bad. I would not mind playing with that...
Anyway... the Tank Commander sort of allows you to field an additional 3 main gun copies as it can choose ANY of the Leman Russ variant's guns on its Leman Russ Tank.
I am not going to put all of the profiles for these guns on this post and leave all of that info for the posts for THOSE thanks.
I must say though, the most common pick for the Tank Commander is the Demolisher Cannon... so I will include that on this post!
A Tank Commander is 205pts to field. You build them from the normal Leman Russ tank box, which is $70.

Toughness 11
Save 2+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 13
Ld 7+
OC 3
In other words, tough with lots of wounds.
Weapons
Ranged:
Demolisher battle cannon
24" Range, D6+3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S14, Ap-3, D6 Damage each
Blast
The other guns include:
◦ 1 Leman Russ battle cannon
◦ 1 eradicator nova cannon
◦ 1 executioner plasma cannon
◦ 1 exterminator autocannon
◦ 1 punisher gatling cannon
◦ 1 vanquisher battle cannon
It also has a large variety of weapon options for the hull and sponsons. Like I said, I am going to cover them all in the Leman Russ Tank Reviews but briefly:
Hunter-Killer Missile - Auto-include for free.
Sponsons, choose from this list:
◦ 2 heavy bolters
◦ 2 heavy flamers
◦ 2 multi-meltas
◦ 2 Militarum plasma cannons
Hull mounted, choose 1:
◦ 1 heavy bolter
◦ 1 lascannon
◦ 1 heavy flamer
Plus another, 1 of these
◦ 1 heavy stubber
◦ 1 storm bolter
Melee:
Armoured tracks
6 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S7, Ap 0, 1 Damage each
Abilities
Vox-net
The Tank Commander can issue Orders up to 12" away.
Death Befitting An Officer
If the Tank Commander dies, before being taken off the table, roll a 2+, then shoot with the tank as though its on full wounds before then removing it from play.
This is why people like running it with the Demolisher Cannon!
Thoughts
I feel that if I were going to play any tanks in an Astra Militarum army, the Tank Commander is an auto-include. Most Guard players are running him!
That makes only 3 Astra Militarum Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 3.37% Completed! The total Completed on 9.26% Complete! Can I review them all?!
