Warhammer 40k - Review Library 406 - Chaos Daemons, Skull Altar

Generally, a waste of points... Nice for the collection though.

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - Datasheet Review post!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit in the game of Warhammer 40,000

The last of the Indexes! A new challenge!

Right, I am finally ahead and by my best estimations as I explained in this Post, I should be able to keep ahead of the release curve and get the remainder of the Indexes reviewed before those Codex releases.

So I embark on a new challenge. I have calculated that there are roughly 148 reviews to do. I have chosen my frequency and have given myself 96 days to review them all.

Today is Day 35/96.
I have reviewed 53/148.

Time elapsed: 36.45%
Review Completion: 35.81%
Slightly behind.

Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear

With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.

I am collecting funds in the following ways:

  • Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
  • Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
  • Selling some of the collection to friends.

At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $226 to pay off!

Every bit counts!

Back to the review!

Chaos Daemons, Skull Altar

10th Edition Index

Basically... its a piece of terrain... you spend money on buying terrain that looks nice. But if you use only this part, then it has a datasheet. It might look nicer if you built it into a larger piece of terrain.

It is 105 points which is a 1/3rd of the points of Skarbard or another Blood Thirster, who do one of the the Skull Altar's functions... so there seems very little use in paying so much for something that does the minimum.

This is not a model I expect to see on a tournament roster.

Shadow of Khorne

Friendly Khorne Daemons from your army within 6" are within your army's Shadow of Chaos and can re-roll Battleshock Tests

Cover

If this model obscures a target, then it gives Benefit of Cover to the unit being shot at.

Fortification

All the usual Fortification rules. You are not really within Engagement and can run away without penalties. Etc Etc.

Thoughts

Like I said, looks cool if you are into heretical daemon symbols... but it is not that great on the tabletop for 2000pts games.

That makes 40 Chaos Daemon Datasheets Reviewed, putting them on 77
% Completed! The total of the remaining Index reviews is now 93.

Thank you for reading!

With GW being basically a plastic seller, I'd have expected them to make this ridiculously cheap on points but limit it to one or two per army. That way, everyone would rush out and buy a couple...

Indeed... they COULD make it a bit more attractive to use.
