Warhammer 40k is a Living game! Deal with it!
Good day everyone! Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is the tabletop hobby: Warhammer 40,000!
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only war... and war never changes... but what DOES change is that there are always new releases.
The thing that irks me is that there are some people who actually COMPLAIN about this. But then you realize that you might be part of a community that actively enjoys complaining about things and make it habit to share and boast of their woes!
Which is a little insane really, especially when they complain that their army gets nerfed or changed in the balancing of the game. Why did your army lose a rule or a unit went up in points cost? Well, probably because someone out there used that unit in a specific way in a tournament and they enjoyed massive success with that unit!
After that, more and more people took advantage of the unbalanced selection or synergistic combination of rules and several people achieved victories over and over again.
When people keep winning at events because of what army they play and not the skill that the player, then GW is forced to do something. This game also relies on dice... but if you keep using the same units over and over and everyone who uses those exact units keep winning then it is a sign of imbalance and therefore a change will happen.
Because of this army winrates will rise and fall. If your army's winrates remain in a moderate zones, then there will be no significant modification to your army's rules.
Which is fair right?
In general, there are no armies in Warhammer 40,000 that are intrinsically stronger than others. Each one needs to be understood in order to play effectively.
Some armies also need you to have a good understanding of the opponent's army. This is certainly true for the piratical Drukhari who are "glass cannons". Other armies that are perhaps more robust, like the Necrons who can bring units back to the board might not have as bad a time after making a mistake.
What goes up, will come down and what is in the middle will also stay there. The bottom line is that you need to play Warhammer 40k in the way that makes you happy and with the army that you enjoy playing.
If you want to buy 6 armies and play the army that is always the current best in game, then that is what makes you happy and that is the way you must play.
I have another approach and it is shared by many others. I have my main, preferred army and that army is my favorite. This is the army I would automatically play as in a PC game version should they be available. I would play as one of their Characters if there was a DnD version of the game and if I had to receive a poster or other paraphernalia, then it would be of THAT faction.
So when it comes to tournaments, I build the army that I want to play and I learn to play it as best as I can. I will only evolve my list if I play many games and they are not effective.
I have found a list or two that eats me up like a rock-paper-scissors kind of way but generally, I am strong against other things.
So... I hope this was a fun read! Keep on rolling those dice!

I was wondering why your title was somewhat aggressive XD There are probably some valid complaints in there somewhere but yeh I have noticed that sometimes people just like to complain for the sake of complaining like they're addicted to the feeling of outrage or something.
Youngest was telling me about the ups and downs of the Thousand Suns, and how every army has its time in the sun, except the orcs apparently?! XD (he had his first league game yesterday and managed to win)
