The Imperial Army at 2,170pts take on 3,550pts of Necrons!
Hello everyone!
A little while ago I was getting my "Grand Imperial Army" ready for its first grind-down game. The concept is to build a massive Imperial army and I stay motivated to paint all units. I was considering the size of this army and that I would be going up against @owen-turner's 3,5k Necron army, I knew I needed to buff the army a bit.
So with Post 17 I had put together an army that would at least offer some staunch resistance to the Necrons but also make it fairly lopsided in Owen's favour.
We will then repeat this game later on after I have grown the list a bit.
So, onwards to this game.
There are a lot of pictures in the camera roll below, it is sequential but I am not going to a play-by-play on the photos.
Instead, I will do a bit of a run through on my kills scored during the game.
Owen and I rolled for first turn after setting up. We both got a 1, we both rolled again, I got another 1 and he got a four. So he get's first turn!
Thankfully for me, he did not manage to kill anything of mine in turn 1. He did, however hurt about 4 different units.
I did not record his kills. It took him 6 turns, but he did wipe out all of my forces. That is the whole list as Post 17 above shows.
In retaliation I slew the following:
Turn 1:
- C'tan Shard of the Deceiver - 265pts
- Triarch Stalker - 110pts
Total: 375pts
Turn 2:
Doom Scythe - 230pts
Scarabs x3 - 40pts
Scarabs x6 - 80pts
Total: 350pts
Total so far: 725pts
Turn 3:
Skorpekh Destroyers x3 - 90pts
Transcendent C'tan - 295pts
Lokhurst Heavy Destroyers x2 - 110pts
Canoptec Doomstalker - 145pts
Total: 640pts
Total so far: 1,365pt
Turn 4:
Scarabs x6 - 80pts
Tomb Blades - 75pts
Total: 155pts
Total so far: 1,520pts
Turn 5:
Necron Warriors x20 - 200pts
Total: 200pts
Total so far: 1,720pts
Turn 6:
Royal Warden - 50pts
Immortals x10 - 150pts
Total: 200pts
Grand Total at the end of the game: 1,920pts!
For 2,170pts facing off against a for that is 1.6 times its size, they accounted for themselves well. Right at the end you can see the Necron units that survived the battle. The Nightbringer and a bunch of other units that carry high weight in value.
We shall see what happens next time!
Cheers!

When I played as a teenager, I would write myself so many notes after a game to try and learn and improve, I would have loved to have been able to take photos as the game progressed to jog my memory.
It's definitely a cool concept to try and grow your army against a static bigger one and keep trying to win with the smaller force. It actually seems more fun for you than for Owen, so he's a good dude for helping out.
Oh we both had a lot of fun.
I mean, it is fairly inconceivable that I win, so it takes the stress out of a regular game. We also did away with objectives with this particular game. So it was all about killing and survival. I defended mostly from a corner until I used Deep Strike and Reserves to use a few units to kill things in his back lines and split his forces as a consequence!
Owen has a Blood Angels army and an Imperial Fists army.
We are looking at possibly doing the another matchup in two encounters: I fight the 3.5k Necrons with 4-5k Imperial. I try wipe HIM out and then we have another match with my surviving units against his next army.
The other option is that we play at his house and we play a multi-day game when it gets to 5k+ per side. lol
All of those options sound absolutely amazing!
Indeed! Its going to be Epic! 😁😁😁😁

The Necrons again! 😅
Indeed. They are a tough enemy to face!
Awesome man. It looks like an absolute blast. Glad you guys enjoyed it so much.
Hehehe, indeed. I got some revenge on those C'Tan because man, they were so tough at the last big game!
