Mama and the Oldies Catch in the Little Talipapa: Pretty-Looking Fish for Lunch - Sour and Salty Paksiw

1000008380.png

I saw Mommy F removing the cover of her tricycle. I thought she'll really push through with her plan to go to Proper Bansud, in the Pier. We told her it is too hot already to go there and it will also really bad for her. And because we didn't want to come with her, Mom change the plan and decided to just go to Bansud Bridge. She still insist on driving her motorcycle despite our reminder to her. She said it's been month since she last drive it so she needs to run it. We can't really stop her, no one can. She's one hard-headed woman, aigooooi!

And because she insist going to Bansud Bridge, to where the little Talipapa is, to buy fresh fish, I called Mama Ading and asked her if she is also planning to buy fish for their lunch. She said yes, so they both go to Bansud Bridge and I sigh in relief Because at least Mommy F has a company while driving. I still don't like the way she drive but as I've said, she still do what she wants and she believes in her body and that she can still drive. And she drive really slow, I just wish that time that they wouldn't encounter an impatient and bad driver on the road.

Fortunately, they arrived home safe and sound. I was left at home praying to God to give my oldies protection while on The road. And I am always grateful when Mom arrived home whenever she drive her tricycle. (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)

Anyhow, they arrived home with the fishes on their hand. They brought an unfamiliar looking fish that I doubted if they are really edible. Haha.

Because look, are't they're too colorful and pretty to be eaten? I feel like they are fit to be in aquarium as a pet and not as a food. And to be honest, I only see them in the market but never tried buying it. It is new to me, but Mama and the oldies knows what kind of fish they are and that it is a delicious one. But still, they are too pretty to be eaten ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌. Another thing, they are kinda expensive too. In the market, they sell it for 300+ pesos per kilo. But in the Talipapa, it is only 240 pesos. That's way cheaper that the ones in the wet market, omg!

Anyways, the oldies requested to cook Paksiw with Ginger. To remove the stinky smell of the fish. The ingredients are salt, MSG, garlic, ginger, water and vinegar. We don't need to put much, just a few ingredients and the fish will already taste good. That's according to them.

I cook it for 30 minutes, like almost no water left. I let all the spices and aromatic I put in there spread and got absorbed by the fish. Thanks to the long time of cooking it, the fish become more tastier. I can imagine it pairing with fried rice with lots of garlic. I didn't show it but that's exactly what I did. We have a lot of leftover rice from dinner and that become part of our lunch. But look how the color changes after cooking it (≧▽≦).

And yeah, it taste really good, it has white meat inside. Between this and galunggong, I prefer this kind of fish.

Such a sweet, Mommy F sounds strong and stubborn, but it’s clear how much you love and worry about her. The fish looks too pretty to eat, but your Paksiw sounds really delicious—especially with garlic rice. Thanks for sharing this warm moment @ruffatotmeee😊.

Yummy😄. i didn't try it to taste these fishes yet. It looks like tilapia. In our place, tilapia is the main fish that is available since it grows in this place. The type of cooking they do also, was paksiw, sinigang, roasting, and frying.

Ohh, that's Mom's fav, I don't eat that though. Di ako natutong kumain, mga kasama ko sa bahay, mga oldies, di din kumakain nyan. But some days, Tilapia is much better than milk fish daw.

I can really feel how much you care with Mommy F, Good thing she had company on her trip. Mas naging kampanti ka kahit papaano. Nakakatuwa din yung fish story. Sometimes the prettiest one are the tastiest. 😄 And yes, paksiw recipe with ginger is always a classic, simple but so good, im sure mapapa dami ka talaga ng rice.

I agree with you, they're pretty. It looked like it came straight from the Aquarium, you know those pet fishes that got bigger. Haha. Anyway, that's really savory if cooked for long and the spices was absorbed in the meat.

Ay! Eto yung paborito ko ring binibili kapag may ganito sa palengke. These are best for paksiw or pritong isda. These are also good for escabeche. Masarap to, soft and fine yung flesh nya and manamistamis ang lasa. If fresh pa talaga, pwede din tong tinola sissy.

Omooo, yes, manamis namis nga. We just had it as Paksiw and its the best! Next time we'll fry it then escabeche later. We actually had this today with Lagidlid naman haha. And tinola sa fish? Never tried that yet. Should cook it ba like chicken tinola?
