Another Academic Achievement Unlocked!

Last week, the official list for dean’s listers was posted on our campus Facebook page. I’m not really keen on getting updated with stuff they posted, so I just got shocked when in the morning my messenger was full of messages. I thought there was late activity that our professor gave, so I immediately opened it, but lo and behold! It’s definitely far from what I expect because it’s about the list of dean’s listers. At first, I didn’t get what the fuss was about, but when I saw the post, I was dumbfounded. My name came first! I thought it was just alphabetical order, yet when I realized it’s not, I couldn’t believe it!

I definitely didn’t expect it because I know I haven’t been a studious student ever since I entered college. Unlike my high school years, where I was totally a competitive academic achiever, now I just want to have a decent grade. Of course I still study, but not like I used to because unlike before, when I could focus on reading for a long time, now I have a lesser reading span. In short, I just study whenever I need to, and because of that, I experienced cramming during the last minutes before the exam…yeah, only in college. So, I didn’t expect much about my rank when the list came out because I knew there are definitely much more competent students than I. But surprise, surprise…I got blessed!

Days passed quickly, and finally it’s the recognition day. As usual, mornings are definitely cold, so it took time for me to take a bath. The water’s super cold, plus I still wanted to sleep at that moment. By the time I finished bathing, it was already quarter to 7:00, and unfortunately, I had to speed things up because the call time was 8:00. Anyway, the practice didn’t start immediately, and since it didn’t, it took time before it finished at 11:00. The recognition starts at 1:00 in the afternoon, so we took our sweet time savoring our food and then later on preparing our faces so that we would look decent and not haggard at all.

Like what happened during the practice, it didn’t start immediately (Filipino time again). We waited for a while before the program started. I was kinda giddy and nervous when it did because I’ll be the first one that’ll be called in our program in second year. This recognition was quite late to be honest, because we’re already in third year now, but that’s just understandable given the calamities we experienced last year.

Supposedly the recognition will be done shortly after we submit our application during our third year, yet because of unforeseen circumstances, it was moved ultimately this year. Ok, back to the program, they had to hasten it because there will be another event that’ll be held in that gym. The program was quite long and undeniably formal, yet it’s nice that I got to see how many of us strive to be on the dean’s list. It may not be as grand as the ones I experienced during graduation ceremonies, but still, it’s a good thing they’re able to allot effort and resources in recognizing us.

When the formal photo ops ended, there came the rowdy part—and that’s the individual photo ops where most of us just pose everywhere among the crowd of students, not caring who will photobomb our pictures. There we congratulated each other, and we took our group pictures, and also some of our classmates joined us. It’s truly a wonderful moment for me because I was able to feel those happy times with my friends. I know that tough days are coming, so as much as possible we enjoyed that day even though it wasn’t that long.

I think that would be all for now everyone. If you’re reading up until here—hope to see you on my next blog and have a good day!
