Family's favourites dishes. 🥰

Greetings everyone. Hope all are doing well.

My family likes a lot of dishes. Especially when our father cooked it. Like I've mentioned before, it's our father that does most of the cooking at home. Whether it's for everyday meals or special occasions. I never hear him complain so I guess he loves cooking and he loves his title. He's our chef. During special occasions my brother and brother in law would assist him in the kitchen. We ladies just sit on the table when the food is ready.😁. Neither one of us has the passion for cooking😑. Sadly after our father's mini heart attack he cannot do the cooking anymore. He's okay but he doesn't cook again. It's my youngest brother that inherited the throne. He's our new chef now. Though I miss the foods that my father cooked before, I don't have a choice but to settle for what the new chef has to offer🙁.

One of our favourite dishes is sinigang na isda. ( Sour fish)

We always cook milk fish. Put lady finger, radish, long beans and eggplant to make the dish nicer and healthier.

It's an easy dish to cook. I myself can prepare this meal. Only that I'm not good at taking out the apdo (gall-bladder) of the milkfish. It's a small organ that stores bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver. In cleaning the fish it's important to take out this gallbladder. I always end up breaking it and making the dish taste bitter. There was a time when I cooked this fish for the first time and I never knew this gall bladder existed. Imagine how bitter that dish was🥵.
Another dish that we love is tinola.

It's like a chicken soup. We put unripe papaya and moringa. I grew up on this dish. We grow chicken in our house and once in a while my father would slaughter one and make tinola. It's everyone's favourite, especially in rainy weather. It's best to cook tinola using the native chicken. It tastes different compared to the one they sell in the market.

We like many dishes but I just pick two as it's in the top of my favourites. Among the foods that I like, it's the sinigang that I longed for when I went home. Sad to say I wasn't able to eat that dish. We didn't cook it during my stay. I also didn't fuss about it because we were too occupied with other things.
I've tried eating that sinigang here in one of the Filipino stores but it tastes different. They didn't even bother to take out the scale and I never tried it again.
This is my answer to one of the questions in the July blogging contest😬
What’s your family’s favorite healthy home-cooked dish?
That's all for today guys. See you around♥️
How about you @lhes? I know you get a lot of chances to eat our favourite dishes because you have stayed longer😁. @tengolotodo showcase your talent on those meals that you love to cook😛😛😌.

The tinola sounds delicious, perfect rainy day food. Sorry your father is not well enough to cook for you!
You'll have to ask him for the recipes😉

Not sure what happened here, my comment didn't go through when you posted this!
I thought you would have had sinigang. It seems so popular all over the Philippines.
I hope dad is getting better, so time for your brothers to excel and pop that chefs hat on!
The tinola looks good, but maybe it is your native chickens that made it!

Di nyo pinapalinis sa palengke yong bangus? Ganyan ginagawa namin eh sabaw pahiwa na rin ehe. Ang seeing thata sinigang na bangus made me crave for it. Bagay na bagay yan sa malamig na panahon today.

No matter what kind of fish its so important to get those inners out. I actually just had some fish and it was super tasty 🤪 no pictures to show but my tummy is settled.

I hear you on the change of chefs. My mother not doing well and doesn't bake like she use to. Its felt and really shows around the holidays. None of us have picked her job. I have thought about making some of her pumpkin bread. You will have to wait for that maybe a long time, haha. Well all the best to your father hope he gets better.

He's fine now. Maybe enjoying his moments that were serving him.
Back then I never knew that it needed to be clean.😁😛

Ah nope, you know how busy I was at home so didn't get a chance to cook food that I want.
Besides, chickens are too young to be slaughter 🙄.

Naa, I think Father could still cook if he want too. The doctor only forbids him not to lift anything heavy. Just, he was enjoying that there is someone who prepares food now 🤣😆.

It's great that you have enjoyed your father's cooking. I can imagine how much you miss his dishes now. Sinigang na bangus was one of our staple ulam noon. Tatay ko rin nagluluto, aside from the usual ingredients, dinadagdagan din nya ng unripe mango or yung santol kapag nasa season (my mouth watered remembering it, hehe)

Sarap ng tinola sis :)

We really need to remove the gallbladder hehe. It really makes the the soup bitter but those who like the taste, the do not remove it - they said, it's part of the taste. 😄

The bitterness in the soup is terrible when I forget to remove it. We just eat the fish and leave the soup alone 😁.
